Thanks for posting that charming phot...Hi, Birgit!

Thanks for posting that charming photo and telling us about your grandparents Oma and Opa. They are a great example of how couples of the past were able and willing to work through serious marital problems like infidelity and stay together long term.

I enjoyed your set of wedding songs. That was indeed quite a coup for your university to land Billy Idol as entertainment. That said, if the dance event took place in 1983, as you believe it did, then Billy was not yet a huge star, at least not here in the U.S. Examining the stats, his "White Wedding" went top 5 on the U.S. Rock chart, but barely cracked the top 40 on the pop chart. Billy's first single, "Dancing With Myself," today regarded as one of his classics, failed to reach any chart, didn't even make the Bubbling Under survey. His second single, the one you mentioned, "Mony Mony," merely Bubbled Under at #107. It wasn't until a live version of the song was released in 1987 that it became a chart-topping hit. His third release, "Hot In The City," revealed that Billy was catching on in the spring and summer of 1982 but, even so, that record missed the top 20 on the pop chart and missed the top 30 on the Rock chart. Even "Rebel Yell," a song some regard as Billy's greatest, the first single released from his album of the same name in late 1983, only made it halfway up the pop chart. My point is that Billy Idol didn't become a major glam rock icon and a household name until 1984. I remember the excitement when my university booked James Brown for a live show. I had already attended his live performance on the grandstand of the York Fair in the fall of 1968, and therefore I didn't attend his appearance at Penn State.

Yessum, ABBA's "I Do" song is ideal for weddings, as are many of their other hits. Thanks for sharing that you played them at yours.

FYI - If you intend to visit Shady's Place this week and read/listen to my current post, today is the last day you will be able to do so before it gets replaced and goes into the archives. As always, I thank you for your friendship and support, dear friend BB. Have a super day and I'll be back tamale waiting for you in the balcony-- "At The Movies!"
