So, a couple of weeks back, the lovely Jo at Jo on Food, Life and a Scent of Chocolate, who can't wait for bowling each week had a picture up of a bowling ball. I am not sure if this is her own Bowling ball but I bet it is. I loved the swirly look of white and purple on the ball and immediately thought of a Christmas card. Yup, her bowling ball was my inspiration. Also I had seen a beautiful card, over at 52 Christmas cards, created by one of the design team members, Fabiola, who I just had to copy..um...I mean emulate:) I think her card is nicer but that is just me. I must take in the Insecure Writer's Support Group motto by not doubting.
I enjoyed making this card by, first, sponging shades of purple and green on a white background. I took purple distress ink, wet it down and, with a brush, made the swirls on a cut out circle, added white sparkle and the silver stickles. I stamped a bough branch a couple of time plus added stickles on the branches. I used pop up dots to have the ornament hang from the branch and added a silver string and made a bow! I then mounted it on green and purple cardstock. I hope you like it Jo:)

That must be a strong Yule tree to support a bowling ball ornament, dear Birgit! :) Shades of green and purple are my favorite color combo and the ball certainly does look like a custom made bowling ball. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThat tree is made of iron:)
DeleteWOW... love the colours and that's a cool idea how to create it. That's a fantastic card!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for playing along with our Sparkles Christmas Challenge for November and good luck!
Doris *GDT*
Thank you:) Glad you like it
DeleteThat's a fun card Birgit...loving the swirly green and purple and the the glittery bits....xxxx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much.
DeleteLovely colour scheme!

I thought the colours look quite good together
DeleteA lovely card - I how you found inspiration from a bowling ball! Thank you for joining us at Sparkles Christmas Challenge.

Yes...I loved the colours in that ball
DeleteAmazing. A bowling ball would not inspire me to do anything but run. I am a terrible bowler.
ReplyDeleteOh Gosh you should see me bowl!
DeleteLove it, especially the cute string bow! I bowled when I was a tween and had the same purple swirl ball! ;)
ReplyDeleteThat is funny that you had the same ball. Glad you like the bow
DeleteHopefully the bowling ball is hollowed out or that tree may fall over lol great job indeed
ReplyDeleteThank you-nope solid but the tree is iron:)
DeleteAh, but much prettier than a bowling ball!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much:)
DeleteYou rolled a strike with this one! (Oh God that was so cliche) *Hangs head in shame and ambles away*
ReplyDeleteHahahaaaa-my ex could say 5 more puns before I think of one. Never amble:)
DeleteLovely card, thanks for sharing at Sparkles Christmas monthly.
ReplyDeletePat xx
Thank you!
DeleteWhat a wonderful piece of work, greetings!
ReplyDeleteInspiration many times comes from the most surprising of places. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I thought it looked good
DeleteVery cool, Birgit! I also like that the bowling bowl inspired you. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks and it did!
DeleteThat is so cute :) Very imaginative in your creation of this card :) I bet Jo did like it :_
ReplyDeletebetty
Thank you and I hope she does:)
DeleteYes, I do like it. Most attractive. I would point out to everyone who commented though that the original ball is for 5 pin bowling which none of you, except possibly Birgit herself, will have tried unless you came to Canada. 5 pin is uniquely Canadian. So, I hope you are sending me that card Birgit LOL
ReplyDeleteI can only do 5 pin whenever I bowl as the others are too heavy for my joints. Now LOL or not, If you would like the card, I made it with you in mind so I will gladly send it to you, just e-mail me
DeleteThat looks like my bowling ball! I don't bowl, it was an early gift from my husband.
ReplyDeleteI've lost my ability to comment on blogspot posts except as unknown.

Well I guess it linked me to my alternate email!
DeleteHahahaa-glad you can comment however it works. Glad you like the card
DeleteI think it looks great. More people should take the time to make their own cards.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am glad you like the card.
DeleteYour emulation made for a stunning CC, Birgit!! The colors in the background, the bowl, er, bauble, and all the sparkle are sensational!! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteThank you so much:) I am so happy you like my card.
DeleteThat looks fantastic. You really captured the swirliness (is that a word?), and Jo certainly is a good inspiration, isn't she?
ReplyDeleteThanks-I tried and the lady sure is
DeleteI love it when inspiration strikes like that!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice when it strikes
DeleteSo, it had many inspirations. I like the way it turned out.
ReplyDeleteThank you:)
DeleteBeautiful card. The idea of a bowling ball ornament makes me anxious. I can't help worrying about the weight! You should do a curling stone next. Those things are what, 20 kg?
ReplyDeleteCurling Stone, Shotput ball...hey the tree can be made of iron:)
DeleteIt's gorgeous, Birgit! I love your creativity—such an inspiration. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGuilie @ Quiet Laughter
Glad you like it!
DeleteGorgeous, beautiful Christmas card, love all the sparkly

This is clever & oh, so pretty. Love that you added in the tree branches in top corner to support the bowling ball. This would be great to use some small zentangle circles I don't know what to do with! The how-to was great fun to read, and love the creativity of this idea. Must join in that Insecure group myself! TFS & Hugs. (also thanks for the newer post about the collection agencies. Some very good info contained in that post).
ReplyDeleteA great card - thanks for joining us at the Alphabet Challenge.

This is a really cool card. I might have asked you before, but do you ever sell images of your cards on Zazzle? I can imagine a bowling team might enjoy a card with your design. I sell some of my art imagery and photographs as cards and tshirts on Zazzle.
ReplyDeleteOnly trouble with that J. Hanna, it is not readily identifiable as a bowling ball. One would need a few pins or something to go with it for a bowling team.
DeleteWell there is no problem then. Just alter the illustration slightly to make it look more like a bowling theme Christmas card. It is still a great suggestion, the Zazzle thing :). I am an unabashed Zazzler. Cannot help it :).
DeleteWOWZER... what a dazzler! Now that is a bauble and a half, Birgit. And I love that it glows...
