Wallace is not brave, in fact, he is a bona fide chicken shit! He was so scared of people, the outside, everything that he would not eat for the first few days. I actually believe he had never been on a leash and ran wild around Louisiana. He spent months in his crate, security blankie, as we slowly trained him to not do his business in the house, get used to his surroundings and get used to us. My beautiful Katie, My black lab who is in heaven with my dad, really helped Wallace. We tried everything from Rescue Remedy to even an anti anxiety med but to no avail-our Wallace has anxiety issues up the wazoo. We brought him to 3 different behaviourists and tried all they told us....yup, he is still a chicken shit but he is our chicken shit.
I am happy to say that we no longer need him in the crate-that went after a year, he is all happy and goofy in our home and he comes up to most people, although he still is wary of my brother. He still shakes and quakes the moment he realizes he is going for a walk and will try to hide in a corner but that is just him-he is agoraphobic. I can't walk him because of my joint problems since he has literally taken my shoulder out of its joint 3 times, thankfully I can just slip it back in but then I can't do much for a long, long time. When my hubby walks him, he can let him off his leash and, like a bullet, he runs straight home never veering off the sidewalk. I believe he was shot at in his young days because he can't go out when someone is using the roofing gun and I have to mute the TV when there is shooting going on in the program. I just love it when he barks and comes to me when I come home giving me lots of kisses on my chin.
Name-Wallace
Age-7 years

Hi, dear Birgit!
ReplyDeleteThank you for introducing Wallace. I have seen scaredy-cat dogs like him and always feel so sorry for them. It's such a shame he doesn't like going outside. Most dogs can't wait to go for a walk. Wallace must have been severely mistreated before you came along and offered him your love and a home. My Toto loved her peanut butter kong, too. Thanks for reminding me of that. I know you miss your Katie like I miss Toto.
Thank you for being kind to animals and giving so many of them a forever home, dear friend BB!
When we grab his leash, he wants to hide...poor thing. When we got him, he had a deep gash over his one eye and we do believe he was mistreated. He is just so scared and yet, sweet. When we take him into the woods, he becomes more relaxed and sniffs and is a normal dog
DeleteBless you and your hubby for giving such a beautiful dog a good home and a loving life....they pay us back with buckets of love....it's true...our best friends...how I miss my "kimmy" xxxxxx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind words. I know how you feel, I miss my Katie.
DeleteSo pleased Wallace has a loving home now. Lovely post. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you...I love my Wallace
DeleteI am so glad that Wallace is happier and coping well. He looks so sweet!
ReplyDeleteHe is doing well and I am so very happy to have him.
DeleteIt took someone special like you to give that dog a home. Looks like the cats have accepted him as well.
ReplyDeleteAll the cats are fine with him....except Mia but Mia doesn't like anyone except us humans.
DeleteGlad he turned around and is now a happy hound, as long as he is inside that is haha ouch to the shoulder pull though. Cats look happy he's there too.
ReplyDeleteHe is happy except when outside as my shoulder can attest.
DeleteWhat a sweetie he is. such a blesslng with you adoptlng him. I liked the picture of him and the cat sleeping so contently.
ReplyDeleteBetty
I'm glad we took him and never regret it. He loves Jade.
DeleteHe fell on his feet when he found you two! And called after William Wallace too.
ReplyDeleteHe is our brave guy even if it is only inside the house.
DeleteWallace may have his quirks, but he looks like a loving dog.
ReplyDeleteHe is loving!
DeleteBless your heart. You've put stars in your crown.
ReplyDeleteDogs really are hazardous. The HH has been jerked off his feet with disastrous results more than once.
Love that last picture!
Hugs
Thank you so much. Dogs can be very, very strong.
DeleteAh yes, the joys of joints going out of place. My mom is the same. That flexibility comes with it's own issues.
ReplyDeleteThe pain is severe and it is taking its toll recently.
DeleteWhat a dear, he is. So adorable. Dogs have such great personalities. Even though I don't really want a dog, it make me sick thinking about how many dogs have to be destroyed each year. So glad you were able to rescue him.
ReplyDeleteIt sickens me as well and also how many cats and dogs do not get spayed or neutered and are abused. There should be bigger laws against people who abuse animals.
DeleteWallace, you are one good looking dog. You landed in the right place because I know your mom is a softie.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Thank you so much and Wallace is a softie too
DeleteLooks like such a sweet boy with a great family to take care of him. <3
ReplyDeleteHe is a sweet boy for sure.
DeleteHe;s a cutie. I am glad Wallace found a good home.
ReplyDeleteHe is our cutie and my sweetie
DeleteAll I can say is, awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
ReplyDeleteHe DOES look a wee bit embarrassed about those devil horns, though. ;-)
Yes, well, my hubby refused to walk him in this outfit at Halloween so I had to at least get a picture.
DeleteEnjoyed hearing your Wallace rescue story. Wallace is one lucky dog to come to a family who can appreciate his personality, love him, and give him security. His family is lucky to have adopted a pet that provides a lot of generous doggie love. TFS the story. Our DD rescues greyhounds, and has had 6 so far (I think just 6! maybe there's a new one now, and I just haven't been given the news!) Hugs & pats to Wallace. TFS- loved the outfit too.
ReplyDeleteWallace! Does he love cheese? He must love cheese. (Is that even healthy for a dog?)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful and sweet tribute to your Wallace, Birgit! It makes me happy that you have given him a loving home after his harrowing beginning. Our Duke is a chicken shit, too, but not quite as bad as Wallace. We know Duke came from a good home and he was a well-loved little puppy when they got him, so it's a mystery. I've had enough dogs, however, to personally think that sometimes they are born carrying the scars of their ancestors. I know, weird, but I don't know how else it can be explained. Anyway, big hugs to you both!! Enjoy your day!! Darnell
ReplyDeleteAww, so great to meet Wallace!! Love him in that devil costume! I want to dress Clancy up so badly but he won't allow it LOL. Wallace and the kitty look cozy but it also seems like they are trying to decide if they really like being that close to each other LOL. Wallace looks like he's not too sure about it. :D
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad he found a great home with you!!
Hope you, the hubby and critters are having a great evening.
ReplyDeleteBirgit, what an interesting story of Wallace. I'm glad you were able to integrate into the family. You just never know how those things will work out sometimes. DD#2 got a second dog but after almost a year she realized it wasn't going to work. It destroyed their property and they are renters, so she had to find him a new home. Thanks for sharing the dog-tail! ;)
ReplyDeleteThat is an adorable chicken shit. It's okay that he's not brave. None of mine are. Let's face it, most of us don't have dogs with the intent of turning them into badass guard dogs anyway. Even one dressed menacingly as the devil.
ReplyDeleteOh, he's so cute. We have a scared dog here too. She's really fun and she likes to play but we can't bring her out for a walk because people scares her. Maybe because she's just a few months old and we seldom expose her to strangers.
ReplyDeleteWallace is so cute. I love that snuggling picture! He sounds like he has quite the personality. It can be hard being scared of everything. :)

How wonderful that you rescued Wallace, Birgit! ☺ I feel sorry that he's so scared and can only imagine what horrible things befell him in his previous life. Thanks to your loving care, he's come a long way. Sweet boy! ♥
ReplyDeleteWallace knows he hit jackpot when you and the hubby brought him home. Sweet dog.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this post, read it 5 times. Wallace is a sweetheart. He may have has a sketchy past but his future looks just fine. He reminds me of our Peanut who is afraid of her own shadow...still. But the moment she dons her pink helmet and riding jacket... she is a fearless hell's angel! Yes... Wallace has found his forever home. He is one lucky Mein Schatz!
ReplyDeletehugs, Asha
