I can't believe it is a little over a week away before Christmas! Now I have been a kettle of glum, waaaaah, and bleccchhhh recently but there is also fun times especially at this time of year. I have a new Doctor, who (or is it whom??) I saw yesterday, and he listened and knows about Ehlers-Danlos and will be sending me to someone who works with pain which is great! We got Mia back..in a nice urn and she is resting on our mantle in the bedroom. The other animals are all doing well even though one of them peed on our Christmas tree that we had out in the veranda for a while. The smell of cat pee is not a Christmas blessing so we had to hose the tree down with some stuff and it smells better now. I took this week off and have been decorating and enjoying the cold weather and the music. So now, on to movies....Wandering Through The Shelves has the theme of board games, arcade games and video games as the theme this week. I went an easy route this week so, here are my 3....
1. CLUE-1985
I love this game and played it frequently when I was little. I loved the characters and the whole vibe of the Agatha Christie mystery to it. This film stars the wonderful Tim Curry as a detective sent out to a mansion to investigate a murder. We meet all the suspects from The board game and, of course, hijinks ensues especially with this cast. The big twist is that there are 3 endings and you could see a different ending depending which theatre you went to. The DVD has all 3 endings. It's fun...not the best movie but fun to watch.
2. LARA CROFT-TOMB RAIDER-2001
Angelina is well cast in this frolic which showcases her...talents. I should be nice since she is a good actress, tough, but holy T & A Batman-she just can't help it with that bod! She's after some triangles hidden all over the world, gets mixed up with a good/bad guy, some really bad guys, fights statues that reminded me of the Ray Harryhausen movies, travels the world, makes amends with her dad and wears a dress at the end. Actually, this film is the reason for Jolie to be so involved with saving children. I remember her on the Tonight Show tearing up about the young children she saw in Cambodia and said she needs to do something...she has.
3. LARA CROFT: THE CRADLE OF LIFE-2003
This time sexy kick ass is in some silver suit doing flips with her skidoo in the water. She has been asked by MI6 to find Pandora's Box before the evil guys do. There are many adventures going on and you do roll your eyes more than once but it is an enagaging flick with T & A kickass saving the day.
What are your 3? Looking forward to Christmas? Enjoying the Christmas season? I'm looking forward to the Battle of the Bands also set today and will be eager to hear the music picked.
Have not seen any of these, never played Clue (Monopoly was my thing), and can't think of one movie on this theme. Maybe it is just too early in the morning?
ReplyDeleteHope your new Doctor gives you some relief. I always tell folks that some doctor had to graduate at the bottom of the class and I want to make sure it is not the guy or gal I am seeing. Unfortunately, I think I have seen a few of them over the years.
The Dr. Was excellent and I am very hopeful. This was a tough week I agree but I'm glad I at least saw these
DeleteI also picked Clue at first but then picked another one because I thought it didn't fit. To be honest, I'm still trying to figure out whether we were supposed to pick films based on games, or films about games. Does this even make sense?
ReplyDeleteThis does make sense to me:) it said board games so I had seen Clue so that works
DeleteSorry the cat peed on your tree. Not cool.
ReplyDeleteMost game to movie attempts are not great. However, I thought Battleship was a whole lot of B-movie fun.
Yes I know call it our pee tree:) I have not seen Battleship...looks quite ailly
DeleteHi, Birgit!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to know things are looking up a little in your world (except for the kitty pee mishap). I'm sure it brings you some small measure of comfort to have Mia in an urn on your mantle. We have our Toto in an ornamental box on our bedroom dresser.
Believe it or not, I haven't seen any of these movies. Action-adventure is not my favorite genre and, for that reason, I am not likely to watch the two Lara Croft pictures. While I can't remember playing the board game Clue, I love a good mystery comedy film. Based on the trailer, the star studded Clue is one that I am adding to my must see list.
Thank you very much, dear friend BB!
Yea, our pee tree looks pretty but doesn't smell pretty:) I can see you like a good adventure movie like Gunga Din but not these kind. Clue is fun and I hope you like it.
DeleteI never would've guessed that you liked the Tomb Raider movies! I know I saw them in theaters but I don't remember anything from them other than Jolie looking hot. lol
ReplyDeleteShe does look hot indeed and they are mindless fun.
DeleteSo glad to hear you found a new doctor who sounds as if he will be a far better resource than the jerk you were dealing with before.
ReplyDeleteI only watched the first Lara Croft movie, thought it was beyond stupid even with Angelina and Daniel Craig in it and didn't return for the next. And we have a match!! Clue is such fun and better than the others since it doesn't try and trick itself up but uses the basic premise...and that cast!!! Saw it in the theatre, though only once so I had to watch for video to find out the other two possible endings.
Geez Louise this was maybe the hardest week because I've never been a video game player which thinned my choice field immeasurably and the pickin's are lean to begin with. After Clue I was stumped and had to stretch the rules with my last. My first film’s inclusion should not be construed in any way as a recommendation.
Battleship (2012)-What lunkhead came up with the script for this exercise in inanity? Obviously written by someone who has never played the board game which is all about strategy and should have led to a film along the lines of “They Were Expendable” or “The Cruel Sea”. What the hell are aliens and extraterrestrial flying objects doing in a movie called Battleship? Really quite stupid.
Clue (1985)-It’s a dark and stormy night when Mr. Boddy welcomes six guests-Mrs. Peacock (Eileen Brennan), Miss Scarlet (Lesley Ann Warren), Mr. Green (Michael McKean), Professor Plum (Christopher Lloyd), Mrs. White (Madeline Kahn) and Col. Mustard (Martin Mull)-who he has been blackmailing. They’re a colorful lot in more ways than their names and when Mr. Boddy is murdered they set about trying to figure out which one of them did it while the bodies pile up. The best board game adaptation out there, not a high bar admittedly but this is a fun film with Madeline Kahn an absolute scream as Mrs. White.
Mazes & Monsters (1982)-Five college friends all are devout Mazes & Monster players. To have more freedom in their play they move the board game to a local cavern where one of them, Robbie Wheeling (Tom Hanks), begins to slip away from reality and into the fantasy of the game. This TV event movie was Hanks first lead, based on a Rona Jaffe bestseller which itself was based on actual events.
Clue is so much fun and a great cast! Glad we matched again. I don't have any desire to see Battleship unless I am sick and can't find the remote. The last film with Tom hanks sounds interesting and worth looking into.
DeleteGlad you got a new doctor and he seems to know what he is doing! Ick with the cat and the tree, but maybe it was a natural reaction? I haven't seen any of the movies you featured, but I did like playing Clue growing up. It was one of those games where you had to think, know what I mean?
ReplyDeletebetty
Yes, I felt like I had to think regarding this game and love playing it. The pee tree looks pretty...let's just say that. :)
DeleteA good doctor can make all the difference indeed. haha must have thought you were bringing the wilderness inside. Clue I found a decent movie, the Tomb Raider movies were fun if you turned your brain off. Most game to movies suck though. Mortal Kombat is the one that truly stands out for me. Mario Bros is one of the absolute worst though haha
ReplyDeleteThe doctor is great and I am hopeful. Our pee tree is up and looks good but smells....well, you know. The Tomb Raider movies are mindless fun and I will make sure to stay away from Mario Bros...heard it was dreck
DeleteUnfortunately, the Lara Croft movies just never rose to the level of good movies. They seem more like video games, which is where I think the character comes from.
ReplyDeleteYou got that right! They come from some video game. I find them mindless fun
DeleteI'm glad you've found a doctor who might help you better, Birgit. Sounds like you're also getting into the holiday spirit, as much as possible. Cat pee on the tree - yikes! Good thing you were able to get rid of the smell. May your wonderful memories of Mia give you some comfort. I'm not into video games at all, but used to play arcade pinball and board games growing up; mostly checkers, chess and Monopoly. Although I've seen bits and pieces of the Lara Croft movies, they didn't really hold my interest. The Clue movie sounds like great fun, though. Love Tim Curry! Must check it out. ☺
ReplyDeletePee Tree looks good but smells funky. I am feeling optimistic about the new doctor. Clue is the best of the bunch and worth checking out and having a good laugh
DeleteA funky smelling tree - not so great! Have you tried spraying some enzyme urine odour remover on it?
DeleteI haven't seen any of these, but I love to play Clue. It's been years because we don't have enough people to play. Maybe Franklin would like to be Colonel Mustard. I can't think of any movies I've seen that are based on games, but I know very little about video games.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I know so little about video games too but love Clue. I love playing board games and wish I had more people around to play with
DeleteI don't think I've seen Clue but it does seem like good movie potential. Now so many video games seem like movies already. I've seen some games advertised on TV and thought they were movie trailers.

Oh my...you are so right! I think I am watching a new film only to realize it's some game. In some ways, it's really sad
DeleteI'd like to see Clue sometime. Never had the urge to see the Tomb Raider movies.
ReplyDeleteClue is fun and witty. The tomb raiders flicks are fun but mindless.
DeleteGlad things are looking up a bit. I have been sending your lovely handmade Christmas cards to my favourite recipients. Perhaps they will think I made them! (No they won't - they know me.)
ReplyDeleteI'm So glad you are sending them to your friends and that you enjoy giving them. They may think you have a hidden talent:)
DeleteSo far I've only seen one recipient (Mum) and she almost believed me when I said I'd made it, but not quite.
Delete"To make a long story short..."
ReplyDelete"TOO LATE!"
Clue is one of my go-to quote movies. I can't tell you how many times I've seen it. Perhaps not the greatest movie, but it makes me laugh. So hard.
I tend to avoid movies based on video games. They don't tend to go well. Glad you found a new doc. Hope your pain gets managed.
Clue is great and I haven't seen it in a while so I need to see it again.
DeleteI think we recently watched a movie that was made from a game, but for the life of me I can't remember its name or the story. Ha! We've been watching too many Netflix movies. That's good news about the doctor and a solution for your pain. I send you gentle warm hugs of Christmas cheer.
ReplyDeleteChristmas cheer to you too. Now I'm curious to find out which film you saw.
DeleteBirgit,
ReplyDeleteWe watched Clue years ago and then in recent years we saw it again on Netflix. This is a good mid-80s flick with an all-star cast of talent. Good comedy and great fun! Tomb Raider we haven't seen yet. The second one is available on Netflix. I hate when they don't put all movies in a series together for viewing because we don't like seeing a sequel first. I may check Amazon Prime to see if it's available for streaming at no additional cost. The trailers look better than what I remember and am totally interested in watching them. Thanks for sharing! ;)
I've been busy all season baking and making candy. I finally got the DIY project completed yesterday. Last year DD#2 asked me to make her and her hubs Christmas stockings. I made all of us personalized ones when the children were very small and they are beautiful vintage style stockings. I can't wait to present them theirs. They turned out so pretty! I will share photos of them on my blog probably after Christmas. Unfortunately time didn't allow me to hand stamp my Christmas cards this year. DH did get me a lovely Christmas stamp for my birthday. It's of an old tree with a tree in the bed. Maybe, I can use it next year.
Have a very Merry Christmas and may 2017 bring good health, happiness, and prosperity. I think it's gonna be an excellent year! ;)
I'd love to see what you have created. The stockings sound so well done and I would love to see your cards. I've been busy with decorating...still need to place the tinsel on the tree
DeleteI enjoyed the Lara Croft movies but I didn't see the other one. I hope you and your family have a great Christmas holiday.
ReplyDeleteClue is the best of the three. I hope the Christmas season is great for you despite the operation
DeleteI played Clue once, couldn't get the hang of it. I too liked Monopoly. Wasn't Jumanji (sp) a board game?
ReplyDeleteBIRGIT ~
ReplyDeleteCan I come over and pee on your Christmas tree?
These last couple of movie themes have been so far outside my wheelhouse that I haven't been able to think of even ONE movie that fits, let alone THREE movies I especially like.
Can we go back to Westerns now? :o)
~ D-FensDogG
Both Lara Croft movies? Nice. Sorta. The first one wasn't bad, but the sequel is terrible. Still need to see Clue. I know, I know, bad blogger.
ReplyDeleteI have seen Clue before- but not that Croft movies. I can't think of any other movies in this category off the top of my head, but I feel like I have seen another...
ReplyDelete~Jess
Oh gosh I have not seen any of these...
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a Merry Christmas :)
Tomb Raider passed me by as did the game. Not an Jolie fan at all.
ReplyDeleteLove Cluedo though - loved the multiple endings.
I'm going to have to google Ehlers-Danlos. Hope the doc sorts you out! Now, as for those films - it's not a genre I ever watch so I can't comment I'm afraid. Happy Christmas!

I loved the Lara Croft videogame. It's been ages since I played. And I know there's so many more now. I thought Angelina was an excellent Lara.
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays, Birgit.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Clue - must search it out. I loved the board game as a child (it was called Cluedo here in the UK). I am a fan of mysteries and love Tim Curry! Not a huge fan of Lara Croft.
ReplyDeleteThat's Purrfect
Hope 2017 is a better year for you, Birgit. I'm glad you found another doctor. And I don't think cat pee is a blessing at any time of year. :P
ReplyDeleteClue is an awesome movie! I didn't care for the Tombraider ones. Angelina makes my eyes roll as well. And I believe she was...er, enhanced, for those movies, as per Lara Croft.
