ZODIAC-2007
Might as well end the A to Z with a killer! Sorry, I know that’s bad but what can I say? 🤪 Zodiac is about the serial killer from the 60s and 70s and how a cartoonist became obsessed with this killer and catching him...which never happened unfortunately. It’s based on a true story where the killer loves to torment by sending letters to this newspaper but the letters could not be deciphered. It gets deciphered by a retired couple who love puzzles and thus cat and mouse game ensues.
It’s a bit long and could have been shortened but it is enlivened by Robert Downey Jnr as a reporter. Jake Gyllenhaal plays the obsessed cartoonist. The lawyer, played by Brian Cox, is Melvin Belli who was famous for one of the worst Star Trek Episodes, “And The Children Shall Lead.” He played Gorgan an angel to the kids but was an evil entity actually. Well, he is a lawyer...
Yippee! Done!!
Yeah, it could have been shortened a bit, but it was good. Gotta watch those evil entities haha

ReplyDeleteI tend to enjoy films based on actual murder and serial killer cases, yet I have not seen Zodiac. I remember the story being in the news when I began my career as a TV reporter. Thanks to your review I now want to see Zodiac. In addition to Downey and Gyllenhaal, the cast includes some of my other favorites including Anthony Edwards, whom Mrs. S and I are currently watching on reruns of ER; Chloë Sevigny who dazzled me in The Last Days of Disco, impressed me in Big Love, and shocked and revolted me in American Horror Story; and Candy Clark - "Debbie" from American Graffiti.

I have never seen this movie, but remember reading about the case in docu-dramas. Not only did you finish, you did so in style. I always love your April A 2 Z entries, dear Birgit.

ReplyDeleteNever saw this one. I'm a big Downey fan, but didn't even recognize him until I read the description of the film. Actually, when I first saw him, I thought it remarkable how closely he resembles an ex-boyfriend of a friend of mine.

Tossing It Out
I did not like this one. It seemed to drag on and on for me. But I've grown weary of serial killers.
ReplyDeleteIt's a tough case to do a film about because it hasn't been solved. Same with D.B. Cooper.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I didn't see this one. I was living in San Francisco when the Zodiac was still roaming around. Watching the Exorcist scared me more than knowing the Zodiac was about. Hurrah for Z's!

Probably not his fault that he played in the worse Star Trek episode, lol. I'll bet he just gave his lines, as badly written as they were. But I haven't seen that episode, so I can't say for sure.

ReplyDeleteCongrats on surviving another A to Z! Well done. The Zodiac, while right up my alley, was so slow I kept falling asleep. I have yet to stay awake through the whole thing. How on earth did they make a serial killer movie so damn boring?

I was trying to remember this movie the other day. I was specifically trying to remember the serial killer it was about. Thanks for answering my question. I never saw the whole thing- but it was one I caught part way in and watched through. :)
