I am in total disbelief that we will soon be in September and this post about TV prequels sucks, to be honest because I have seen few and far between...very, very few as you will see. It will be interesting to see what everyone will choose over at Wandering Through The Shelves but I bet a few zombies, bad people etc... will be walking around. Here are my 3...
1. STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE-2001-2005
This is the only one I watched all the way through and it was not up to par with the rest of the Star Trek shows but I still enjoyed it. It takes place way before Kirk was a baby when going to warp speed was still young and people had grudges with the Vulcans. Scott Bakula plays the captain who can bring his pet dog, a beagle, on board. You have a southern jack ass who loves women but not the sexy vulcan gal on board(but that later changes). The doctor is a fun alien who likes to hang around the humans. One thing I like about this show, aside from Scott(hubba hubba) is that they brought in those loveable blue people, the Andorians, who like to be mean.
2. GOTHAM-2014-2019
I watched this the first year abd a bit of the second but soon grew bored with it. It just seem to be always dark and rainy..meh. This takes place when Commissioner Gordon was a young cop and Batman was just a kid. We start seeing how all the mean villains take shape and how Batman becomes who he is...whatever.
3. Star Trek: Discovery-2017
Yeah...I would rather talk about The Orville but here we go so this show, as I like to call it, STD, takes place a few years before Kirk and his gang come on board. It is everything gene Roddenberry would have hated with dark depressing sets, military style captain and that one lead half vulcan girl being so annoying that I wanted someone to vaporize her. I was so looking forward to this show especially that Michelle Yeoh was in it only for her to die in the first half hour. I think she is back..I don't care. I hate this show.
Which 3 would you choose?
Okay. Never saw any of these and am hard-pressed to think of any prequel other than 'Endeavor' on the BBC. It is about 'Inspector Morse' when he starts out as a policeman. Three great series if you add in 'Inspector Lewis' who was trained by Morse. (I watch a lot of PBS.)
ReplyDeleteI love PBS but I always missed Inspector Morse.
DeleteI agree Roddenberry wouldn't have liked that show. I certainly didn't like it.
ReplyDeleteIt just sucks
DeleteOh crap. You know I never go to the movies, but I'm a big TV person (as long as it's not about comedy). However, I've only heard of the first one you mentioned, which I only saw once. But yes, Scott is SO adorable. Let's hope Chelsea Fields doesn't read your blog (grin).
ReplyDeleteI also thought of Endeavor on PBS like Denise did. Other than that, I don't have a prequel clue.
This was a tough one this week. I guess Chelsea like STD:)
DeleteI’m sure I should know some but can’t bring any to mind! I watched Morse, but not Endeavour. No John Thaw, no thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis was a toughie this week
DeleteI also tried watching Gotham and just gave up due to boredom. I think I only lasted about 5 or 6 episodes. It was just so...bad.
ReplyDeleteI refuse to pay for CBS All Access which is a shame because i'd actually like to watch Star Trek Discover.
STD is on the Space network so I get to not watch it from there:)
DeleteNope not seen any of them Birgit, I sort of don't see the point of them really.
ReplyDeleteHope you are keeping well and safe Kate x,
You are right! Unless it is somehow brilliant(they usually are not), I find these dull and no originality
DeleteI’ve seen about half of Gotham
ReplyDeleteLonger than me
DeleteI haven't seen Star Trek Enterprise: 2001-2005. Though I enjoy most things Star Trek, especially the Chris Pine movies.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the Chris Pine films are pretty good
DeleteI've seen an episode or two of Enterprise but that's it for this week. My prequel knowledge is so meager that I'm sitting this week out.
ReplyDeleteI had a feeling Joel and I was scraping the barrel for thiese.
DeleteI started Star Trek: Enterprise, but something happened and I stopped watching. What happened? I do not recall. It might have been a DVR conflict. The fact that it was the one to fall away tells you everything you need to know about how much I liked it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of prequels. I'm not exactly sure why.
They lck originality for the most part plus they change things up. You should see the poor klingons now
DeleteStar Trek: Discovery is the only I've seen but I felt meh about the first season so I never bothered with the second.
ReplyDeleteYou lasted longer than me
Deletehaha summed them up well. Prequels almost always suck as they are pointless.
ReplyDeleteYou didn’t instantly like Trip? Or grow to love him? And you watched the whole series?
ReplyDeleteHahahahaha! I should have known Tony would challenge you on this one.
DeleteI don't mind Trip actually..he did grow on me. It's the other guy that I can't recall his name-dark haired. I liked all except him
DeleteThis one evades me. Haven't seen any of your picks. Not any in this category that come to my mind. Smallville maybe? I used to watch that in its early years. No, I don't really come up with anything.

Tossing It Out
Smallville works but this was a tough week because I don't see the reason for prequels for the most part
DeleteI'm having trouble thinking of any. Daughter and I just started Agent Carter. That's sort of like a prequel to most of the Marvel stories. But it's also a sequel. Oh boy... Anyway, the first episode is good.
ReplyDeleteI've watched a smattering of Enterprise episodes. I'm not much of a Bakula fan, actually - I know, scifi sacrilege. He's likeable and I will concede good looking. But I never forget he's Scott Bakula, even in Quantum Leap (a better show, I think).
Discovery: we didn't get very far. I'll give it a try again some day.
I love Quantum Leap and it is supposed to come back to tv next week so I am looking forward to this. Agent Carter is one show I heard was excellent but it was cancelled
DeleteI try to avoid dark series. There's enough of it in the world in real life without watching it in fantasy.
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a wondrous weekend.
I so agree with you and that's why I dislike many of the sequels/prequels to Star Trek because they make them dark ...the exact opposite of what Gene Roddenberry envisioned.
DeleteBirgit,
ReplyDeleteI liked the Gotham TV series. The show's writers and cast were spot on. My favorite character was Alfred. He's nothing like the 60s/70s TV series Alfred. I'm not much of a Star Trekk fan. I watched it when I was a kid and we saw the first three or four movies in the early to mid 80s but anything after that we haven't. The old Star Trekk crew is hard to beat! Thanks for sharing your movie picks!
Hope you are well and brimming with good health and energy.
