Tuesday I had to go for a procedure (polyp in my uterus that needed to be taken out) which knocked me out and I didn’t write this until Tuesday night on my IPad (which is not use friendly) so I know I am late this week. I should be fine but I am knocked for a loop and very, very tired (Wednesday now and getting this published). Jingle, Jangle, Jungle created this weekly theme where you match a song to the theme she chose and here are the 3 themes:
SONG WITH “MOTHER” IN THE TITLE
SONG WITH “SISTER” IN THE TITLE
SONG WITH “WOMAN/WOMEN” IN THE TITLE
1. DOES YOUR MOTHER KNOW-ABBA-1979
I love ABBA and this is a great song from their groovy Voulez-Vouz album. How I wanted to see them on their Voulez-Vouz tour but my mom wouldn't allow me to go. She said drugs may be there. I just looked at her in disbelief and told her, " Mom.. it's ABBA." I thought they were fine since they were not The Who but, nope, I couldn't see them.
2. LITTLE SISTER SUNG BY ELVIS-1961
My brother was the first one to play this song to me which opened my eyes that Elvis could do more than "Jailhouse Rock" and "Girls, Girls, Girls". This song I found different from the typical Elvis songs we know and I really like it. It was written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shoman which I looked up. An excellent ditty.
3. WOMAN- JOHN LENNON-1980
This song is from the Double Fantasy album which came out just after his untimely death of which I remember so well. I was at home when the news came on and I, plus the rest of the world, was in shock. I bought his album, listened to it many times, and still have it. I thought this was a beautiful tribute to women since he wrote it for his wife Yoko. I had no idea,at the time, what a jerk he was but, for me, it doesn't diminish the song or the album.
So which songs come to your mind?
Glad loopy and tired is the worst of it - glad it went well.
ReplyDeleteMother, Don't Want to go to School Today by Extreme
Sister - drawing a blank
Walks Like a Woman by Baton Rouge
It did go well. Thanks. I listened to both of your suggestions and they are not my cup o' tea but they were ok to listen to.
DeleteDr Hook - Sylvia’s Mother
ReplyDeleteLene Lovich - Sister Video
Roy Orbison - Pretty Woman (yes, back with him again)
Sorry to hear you are feeling rough and hope you recover soon.
I love Roy Orbison so you can choose him every week. I like Dr. Hook's song although I never heard of it. Lene Lovich's song is very different and makes me feels like I am in the 1980s.
DeleteI don't know any of your picks. Only came up with I am Woman by Helen Reddy.
ReplyDeleteI almost chose that song :)
DeleteI'm at a loss about Mother and Sister, but I immediately think of I'm Every Woman by Whitney Houston for the Woman one!
ReplyDeleteOh yes...that's a great song by Whitney.
DeleteHi, Birgit!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are feeling better after your procedure, dear friend. I've been looking for this post since 6 am. I thought you were skipping this week's edition of the song challenge.
Your song picks represent three of my favorite songs and three of my favorite artists. Well done!
Here are my choices:
MOTHER SONG: "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing In The Shadow?" - the very long titled hit single by the Rolling Stones from late 1966.
SISTER SONG: "Sister Golden Hair" - the 1975 hit single by the band America.
WOMEN SONG: "Thirteen Women (And Only One Man in Town)" - the B side of one of the biggest singles of the rock era - "Rock Around The Clock" by Bill Haley & His Comets, a song that became a monster hit after it was used in the 1955 film Blackboard Jungle.
See you tamale "At The Movies," dear friend BB!
I listened to all your song choices and really enjoyed them especially the one from America. I am glad you enjoyed my song choices as well.
Delete:)
DeleteSorry to hear about your procedure but glad it's in the rear view mirror.
ReplyDeleteAll three are great songs:)
Feel better.
Hugs
Slowly feeling better. I feel bruised up in the ovaries part so need to take things slow
DeleteHi Diedre - so pleased it's all over and you seem to have come through without any disasters ... take care and recover well. I could only think of Helen Reddy's I am a Woman - as per Denise - but everyone's suggestions remind me of others ... cheers and all the best - Hilary
ReplyDeleteI am glad you like my song choices. I am feeling better...slowly but am happy it got done. My name is Birgit...hahahaaa
DeleteSorry you had to go through that procedure, but glad you came through it fine, if a little loopy.
ReplyDeleteI like ABBA, but had never heard that song before. Don't shoot me, but I am NOT an Elvis fan, or even a Beatles fan. Just my choice, although over the years, I have softened a bit on SOME of the Beatles songs. I've not heard of the last two, as you might guess.
My hubby dislikes Elvis so that's aok...everyone has their own preference. I do like the Beatles but I don't own any Beatles tune except John Lennon's last album.
DeleteBirgit,
ReplyDeleteABBA is one of my all-time favorite bands. It's a shame they broke up way too soon in their career. I didn't realize "Little Sister" released the year I was born. How cool! Yep, we matched on John Lennon's "Woman" song title this time. :)
That's cool that Little Sister came out the year you were born. I was depressed when they broke up but I knew it was tough since they were eahc married to the other and when their marriages broke up, it must have been tough to keep going like before. We do match with Woman.
DeleteI love "Woman". John Lennon had his issues but it's hard to deny he was a fantastic singer-songwriter. I remember reading a book written by his assistant at the time of his death and while John was a jerk, Yoko was pretty bad too. It felt like a very toxic relationship.
