There's my Harley....who is truly stinking up the place. We gave him a new wet food...duck. you know what duck rhymes with? Yes, it's quite smelly right now. I'm joining the Monday Music Moves Me on Wednesday. It's celestial time so let's get to it.
1. SHINE ON HARVEST MOON SUNG BY JANE POWELL, ANN SOTHERN AND LOUIS CALHERN-1950
This was the first song that popped into my head and one I am trying to get rid of to be honest. It's just so catchy! This was created by the Vaudville team of Nora Bayes and Jack Norworth for a Ziegfeld Follies show back in 1908. This song has been done by many but I liked this sweet version. It was between this one and Laurel and Hardy...maybe I should have chosen Laurel & Hardy.
2. A SPACEMAN CAME TRAVELLING BY CHRIS DEBURGH-1975
I love Chris DeBurgh's early music which was very original. This comes from his famous album " Spanish Train".
3. ANUS FROM URANUS BY KLAATU-1976
I love Klaatu who took their name from the famous film, "The Day The Earth Stood Still" in 1951. I enjoy listening to their unique sound and when they were around, a rumour came out that they were secretly the Beatles....they were not.
Hope you like my take.
OK....here's Laurel & Hardy
Hi, Birgit!
ReplyDeleteHappy 4M Monday on Almost Wordless Wednesday, dear friend! Awww - thanks for showing us your stinkpot Harley's Facebook profile pic. :) I'd like to smooch his kisser.
Yessum, I remember Laurel & Hardy performing "Shine On Harvest Moon" in the 1939 film Flying Deuces. They were a very special comedy team, so original, so unspoiled, the likes of which you don't see today. I didn't mind this song and dance number from the 1950 musical Nancy Goes to Rio because I like Jane Powell and Ann Sothern. As I think I told you before, I have Jane's film Holiday In Mexico (1946) on DVD and regularly watched Ann's comedy TV series Private Secretary and The Ann Sothern Show.
I know Brit-Irish singer/songwriter Chris de Burgh from his big 1986 hit "The Lady in Red," but this is the first time I'm hearing "A Spaceman Came Travelling," even though the song topped the Irish chart in 1975 and approached the top 20 up there in Canada. It's a neat song. I read that it was reworked and reissued as a Christmas song in 1986 following his success with "Lady In Red" and continues to be a holiday favorite.
I have seen The Day The Earth Stood Still several times over the years, and know the Canadian prog rock band Klaatu which took its name from Michael Rennie's character in the highly regarded sci-fi film. I also remember this song because somebody posted it a few years ago. Maybe it was you. I enjoyed hearing it again.
Thanks for the musical entertainment, dear friend BB. Have a wonderful Wednesday and I'll be waiting for you tomorrow, sitting in the balcony-- 'At the Movies!"
Such a unique assortment of tunes, Birgit! ☺ I especially liked Chris De Burgh's song. It's so beautiful! ♥ Laurel & Hardy's version of Shine On Harvest Moon was the most fun. Here's hoping Harley gets used to his new food, since it's too cold to open the windows. Happy Hump Day!
ReplyDeleteShine On Harvest Moon was fun:) And as an aside I loved that white dress with the black skirt overlay:) YOU take special care.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your different ways of interpreting the themes, including today. Oliver Hardy has a beautiful voice! My husband has been big fans of them since childhood.
ReplyDeleteHarley is such a ham and a real cutie. Let's hope he soon adapts to his new dog food.
ReplyDeleteThe only song I remember hearing is Shine on Harvest Moon, but I never heard it by Laurel and Hardy. You certainly chose some diverse songs and gave such fun and funny reviews.
Of course it would publish right after I sent you an e-mail!!!
ReplyDeleteThe only song I know in your line up is Shine On Harvest Moon. When I think of Christ De Burgh, I think of "The Lady in Red". I haven't even heard of Klaatu before now. They do sound like the Beatles, so I can see why some were convinced of it. Thanks for joining the 4M party, my dear. Have a boogietastic evening!
ReplyDeleteI love the Laurel and Hardy clip. Ollie was remarkably light on his feet.
