1. I LOVE LUCY- 1951-1957
Yea, this is about the love between Ricky and Lucy and her antics of trying to get into his show but you wouldn’t have a show without their friends, Fred and Ethel Mertz. Lucy and Ethel got into some pretty hair-brained schemes and so did Ricky and Fred. They argued, plotted and loved each other through thick and thin and always stuck together. A great show that is a leader among tv shows.
2. THE ODD COUPLE-1970-1975
I love this TV show ( the best of the bunch made), based on the Broadway play and movie, which stars Jack Klugman as Oscar the slob who takes in his friend after his friend separates from his wife. His friend, Felix, played by Tony Randall, an uptight neat freak who is a photographer who seems to be the wife Oscar never wanted. It is a hilarious show with a great team that produced a life-long friendship between the actors who stuck together through thick and thin especially when Jack Klugman got throat cancer and had trouble finding a job. Randall came through and they did some funny commercials
3. THE GOLDEN GIRLS-1985-1992
Who doesn’t love this show about 3 divorced women who are actually over 50 and must live together since they don’t make a ton of money. Add in a little, smart ass mother from the old country and you are very entertained by the great banter of 3 actresses who are brilliant. In fact, I think this is the prequel of another Friends show, Sex and the City. You have a sensible woman who is the glue of all the friendships, you have the slutty woman who is quite happy in her sexuality, an innocent who wants to see only the best and the no nonsense woman who will be there for her best friend and has no issues telling it like it is.
As for last week, I am looking forward to Winchester...about the woman who created the nutty but great home in California. There is the new Avengers film that sounds quite good and even Mission Impossible 16, oops I mean 6...they are always fun.
I hope to post some crafty stuff later in the week. A new year!!!
Sorry to hear about your pain. I've been dealing with a stressed hip flexor. Loved all three series you picked.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! What you are dealing with sounds painful but I hope you can get some easement from medicine or something.
DeleteSorry about your hands. No fun.
ReplyDeleteWe took our tree down yesterday but my parents leave theirs up until January 5.
No fun but it just is now...I guess. Many have taken down their decorations but I am enjoying it so much I believe due to the snow and cold weather
DeleteI watched a lot of movies over the holidays. My favorite time of year to curl up in my jammies with a cup of hot tea and escape. Looking forward to reading your posts in 2018!
ReplyDeleteIt is fun sitting and watching movies..I did that on the 26th
DeleteI really hope you find yourself in better health soon.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed all three of the TV series you wrote about today! And thanks so much for not using the obvious one, Friends! I only saw two or three episodes of that show anyway, and wasn't all that impressed.
Thank you and I hope so too. I liked friends but I thought it was too obvious a pick
DeleteI loved watching I Love Lucy on Nick at Nite!
ReplyDeleteI Love Lucy was and is brilliant and set the standard for TV today
DeleteHi, Birgit!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, dear friend! I hope your hands are feeling better at this hour. I know all about chronic pain and feel badly that yours put a damper on your holidays to some extent. I don't blame you for wanting to extend Christmas a while longer. In my opinion this is the ideal time to relax and enjoy seasonal songs and be at peace.
I enjoyed your friend pairs. That speeding up conveyor belt in I Love Lucy is a common device in comedy films and TV shows, but it always makes me laugh. The kicker is at the end when their supervisor rewards them for doing a good job by calling for the belt to run even faster. I laugh to keep from crying because that's precisely the mentality found in the modern workplace. The people who work hardest and prove their worth are the ones that get even more work heaped on them.
I loved Jack Klugman as Quincy M.E. and Tony Randall in those Rock Hudson - Doris Day movies and as a frequent quest on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson, but, some some reason, I never got into their TV series The Odd Couple.
Mrs. S loves to watch The Golden Girls but I find the characters more annoying than anything, especially the cranky mother.
I wish you all the best in the coming year, dear friend BB!
Pain sucks doesn’t it? Ok what would be really strange is if I said I enjoy it. I would need therapy..serious therapy:). That scene with Lucy and Ethel was the first for TV and has been oft repeated. I loved this Odd Couple and really enjoyed The Golden Girls
DeleteBug me anytime, Birgit. :-) The Odd Couple was my favorite when it was on. Jack Klugman was a doll. Tony Randall usually played annoying characters, I wonder why.
ReplyDeleteCheers to you!
I think Tony Randall was close to his character to be honest. I am guessing but he said on Johnny Carson once that he liked neatness and he dressed snazzy plus he loved Opera and tried Opera once for real.
DeleteHappy New Year Birgit - and I do hope the dreaded CT syndrome will sort itself out ... take care and I love seeing these programmes occasionally = cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteYes! Some of these are fun to watch especially Lucy
DeleteBlah to the carpel tunnel, but you can type with one hand, been doing it for years haha Seen all three at my sea. Golden Girls is a great pick indeed.
ReplyDeleteI type with 2 fingers so not a prob especially wearing the brace. Glad you like my picks
DeleteHappy new year Birgit..sadly I have been overdosing oncartoons,Christmas weepies and James Bond over the festive season...loving it! ...hope the carpel tunnel is manageable...I have it too...bu***** isn’t it!...xxxx
ReplyDeleteSo glad for your visit. I watched Rudolph, Santa Claus is Coming to Town Plus a Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim, Christmas Vacation, White Christmas and my fav...It’s A Wonderful Life. Always good to chill and watch some flicks
DeleteUgh, sorry to hear about the carpal tunnel. Welcome back and happy new year.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hope your New Year’s was a good one
DeleteI loved the Odd Couple as a kid. It wasn't until I was much older that I learned that there was a movie. I guess it must have been in syndication, for I seem to recall seeing it in the evenings, but not in prime time.
ReplyDeleteThere is this kid at the continuation high school who wears a Golden Girls t-shirt. A lot. He's black, and I'm pretty sure he's in with a local gang. And Golden Girls is one of his favorite shows. (He said so.)
So many people love Golden Girls.
The movie is a good one but I love the TV show better actually and need to see it again. I’m still in disbelief that a gang member wears a Golden Girls T-shirt but I guess that is his soft side.
DeleteSorry to hear you've been struggling with some health issues but glad to see you back!
ReplyDeleteLove all three of your picks and I guess unsurprisingly we have a match!
The friendship of Lucy & Ethel is as essential a part of the show as was Lucy & Ricky's marriage all brilliantly played.
I agree that this version of The Odd Couple is the best. Lemmon & Matthau were always great together but Jack & Tony had a more relaxed chemistry which worked better over the long haul
ADORE The Golden Girls. Just endlessly rewatchable.
I went with an all female lineup for my picks this time.
Desperate Housewives (2004-2012)-On a quiet day on the quiet suburban street of Wisteria Lane housewife Mary Alice Young picks up a gun and blows her brains out. After that less than lovely introduction Mary Alice becomes our guide and narrator through the wacky often chaotic lives of her group of women friends Susan, Lynette, Gabrielle, Bree and for a while their fremeny Edie (Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Eva Longoria, Marcia Cross and Nicolette Sheridan) who all reside on the same street. Through the eight years the series ran the women at times were at odds but when push came to shove their friendship remained strong.
The Golden Girls (1985-1992)-Four mature women (three widows & a divorcee), man hungry Southerner Blanche Deveraux (Rue McClanahan), naïve Midwesterner Rose Nyland (Betty White), New Yorker Dorothy Zbornak (Beatrice Arthur) and her mother Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty) share Blanche’s home and each other’s lives in the Miami suburbs. Over many cheesecakes the quartet talk about everything under the sun including aging, sex, artificial insemination and a myriad of other things interlaced with Rose’s often idiotic hometown Saint Olaf stories. They bicker, argue and fight but consistently support each other when it really matters. What makes this so special and constantly rewatchable is that four of the best comedic actresses that ever lived interact in every episode like a well-oiled machine.
Laverne & Shirley (1976-1983)-Slapstick shenanigans of two Milwaukee brewery workers and best friends Laverne DeFazio (Penny Marshall) and Shirley Feeney (Cindy Williams). A succession of predicaments happen weekly which require the girls to extricate themselves from in some outlandish fashion as their strange upstairs neighbors Lenny & Squiggy (Michael McKean & David Lander) pop in and out along with Shirley’s sometimes boyfriend Carmine “The Big Ragoo” Ragusa (Eddie Mekka).
Thanks Joel and I hope to get this rectified sooner than later but I still had a great Christmas. I was going to pick Laverne and Shirley but then I thought of The Odd Couple and went with them. Desperate Housewives were quite good and could be funny and sad but I didn’t see all the shows but I did like it quite a bit. Glad we match with The Golden Girls and you have to love Rose and all their shenanigans. I hope you had a wonderful holiday
Deleteall good ones
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI hope by now, the pain has been reduced and you are feeling better. Happy New Year, too dear Birgit. I have seen a few I Love Lucy shows on the Decades channel. For some reason, I don't get the American humor. Sounds odd, doesn't it, since I am an American. But to me, that is slapstick, laugh tracks, and jokes that I don't find funny. I much prefer a subtle look, or a bit of off handed humor. I guess I'm far more British than I realize, at least when it comes to humor.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like this weather, dear. Enjoy your new Christmas gift from your husband. Sounds like he's a keeper!
The pain is better since wearing the brace but the Dr. Says it seems like carpel tunnel so more visits to follow. I get what you mean and we love watching some great shows from England. Actually one funny friendship show is Absolutely Fabulous and my hubby is a keeper

Sad to hear about all the pain you've endured, but glad that things seem to be looking up. Love all three of your picks. They are legitimately three of my all-time favorite shows.
ReplyDeleteI’m glad you liked my Picks and the pain is better with the brace
DeleteHope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteThe Winchester movie should be interesting.

Thank you and it is better. Winchester sounds quite good. So glad you picked Scooby Doo..great choice!
DeleteBirgit,
ReplyDeleteHow are you doing? I know it's hard to believe the holidays are now history. I'm still enjoying our decorations and mewsic, to. I'm not ready to put it away just yet but will probably begin next week.
The "I Love Lucy" show was the best and a classic for all ages and will no doubt endure all times! The 70s "Odd Couple" was a great, fun show. It was a great idea with a slob and neat freak living together. I think it would be difficult living with another person, other than my husband. But...who knows what I'd do if I had to like in "The Golden Girls".
Never worry about putting blog life on hold to take care of yourself. We'll be here for you whenever you get around to it. Sending hugs & love to you for a happy, healthy, and generally blessed new year!
Thank you and glad you are still enjoying your Christmas like me. My hubby has been listening to the music more this year than any other which makes me so happy. Let’s toast to a healthy new year with lots of reading, music and film.
DeleteLove The Golden Girls. That and WKRP in Cincinnati are my two favourite sitcoms of all time. Yeah, I supposedly grew up in the Friends and Seinfeld era, but that was the stuff my parents watched and I still like it better than 90% of what's out today. Taxi and Three's Company, too.
ReplyDeleteSorry about your pain and I hope you get it all under control soon. :-(
WKRP is priceless! Seinfeld is a great pick actually even though I a man not sure how great they a4e as friends. I wear the brace which helps
DeleteI Love Lucy is a classic!
ReplyDeleteSorry you are having the pain in both hands. Do you take chondroitin/glucosomine? That makes a real difference for me.
Thank you for your comments on my blog.
Lucy is great...knough said😀 I don’t take them but I used t9 and they didn’t work for me even after taking them for close to a Year because I don’t swell.
DeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your pain. I hope you'll get better soon.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any of these but they sound good.
Happy New Year!
Thank you and you have to watch Lucy. Read up on this too because without Lucy and Dezi we would not have had TV filmed as it is now and we would not have Star Trek, Mission Impossible and so much more. The show is hilarious and has been copied many times
DeleteYou picked three classics. All great shows.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope your infusion helps and hope your mom is doing okay.
Hugs,
Thanks and I believe the infusion helps. My mom is good but at Christmas, she looked at me and didn’t know me until I got really close to her. She did this the other night as well and this saddens me. She still has no problem with my brother
DeleteThese are all such great shows. Brought back memories just reading about them. So many laughs!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you were dealing with so much pain. I hope it has eased at least somewhat. Take care and Happy 2018 to you!
