Letter Z-The end!!
A to Z Challenge
.....Maureen O'Hara starred with James Stewart (Rare Breed) and Jimmy Stewart starred in...
1. ZIEGFELD GIRL-1941-MUSICAL DRAMA
DIRECTOR: Robert Z. Leonard
STARS: Judy garland, Hedy Lamarr, Lana Turner, James Stewart, Tony Martin, Jackie Cooper
PLOT: 3 gals from different walks of life become Ziegfeld gals and each find a different path in life.
QUOTE: Mr. Ziegfeld says, if I don't watch my figure, no one else will (This still happens!)
OSCAR NOMS: Nil
OSCAR WINS: Nil
LOVE: The costumes!
FAVOURITE SCENE: The Stepped Out of a Dream number
FAVOURITE CHARACTER: Susan Gallagher (Judy Garland)
TIDBITS: The most professional was James Stewart. Hedy was very shy and didn't talk to many people. Lana Turner liked to show off her new boyfriend and get attention and poor Judy garland was so insecure of her looks since she was surrounded by Lana & Hedy who were considered beautiful. Judy had the most talent and was still quite the looker herself. James Stewart and Jackie Cooper would sit outside the stage and listen to Judy sing. This was James Stewart's last role before he went to war.
SIX DEGREES (MORE OR LESS) OF SEPARATION:Hedy Lamarr starred with Gregory Peck( Samson & Delilah) and Gregory Peck starred with Juliette Lewis (Cape Fear). Juliette Lewis starred with Woody Harrelson (Natural Born Killers) and Harrelson starred in....
2. ZOMBIELAND-2009-HORROR COMEDY
DIRECTOR:Ruben Fleischer
STARS: Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, Bill Murray
PLOT: Zombies have gone amok and 4 survivors, who are great at killing zombies each want to get to their goal-hometown, an amusement park and eat a twinkie
QUOTE: The first rule of zombieland: Cario. When a zombie outbreak first hit, the first to go, for obvious reasons,....were the fatties.
OSCAR NOMS: Nil
OSCAR WINS: Nil
LOVE: The humour-I would never watch a zombie show unless it was made fun of
FAVOURITE SCENE: When they meet Bill Murray
FAVOURITE CHARACTER: Bill Murray (Bill Murray-he plays himself)
TIDBITS: Abigail Breslin adopted a dog from a shelter and we see the dog in this film-he's a cutie. Bill Murray ad-libbed a lot and the scene in the truck when mentioning Miley Cyrus, is all ad-libbed.
SIX DEGREES (MORE OR LESS) OF SEPARATION: Woody Harrelson starred with Robert Redford(Indecent Proposal) and Robert Redford starred with Charles Boyer (Barefoot In the Park). Charles Boyer starred with Olivia De Havilland (Hold Back the Dawn) and De Havilland starred with Bette Davis (Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte) and Bette Davis was the star of my A post-All About Eve!
I linked them all:) Happy ending to another A to Z...now I have to play catch up and my apologies to all I have not yet visited!

I love Ziegfeld Girl and that song is my favorite scene too. Thanks for a wonderful movie extravaganza this month.
ReplyDeleteIt is a great scene and I always wished I could wear Hedy Lamarr's outfit. Thanks...congrats to you too
DeleteCONGRATULATIONS on reaching the end! Thank you for your visits to my blog. I love James Stewart! My dad drew pictures of Lana Turner and Sally Grey and they sent them back to him, signed.
ReplyDeleteLoved your blog posts. That is so cool that they signed them and sent them back. Do you have your dad's drawings?? Love to see them...maybe you will post them one day
DeleteHi, dear Birgit!
ReplyDeleteIronically, although musicals aren't my favorite movie genre and horror is, I saw Zigfeld Girl but haven't seen Zombieland. Zigfeld Girl was a grand spectacle and boasted a star-studded cast. My mother loved Judy Garland and it hit her hard when Judy died. Lana Turner is a favorite actress of mine. I watched Jackie Cooper's TV series Hennesey co-starring Abby Dalton.
Woody Harrelson and Bill Murray are two of my favorite actors. They were together in Kingpin, one of the most hilarious movies ever made. I love it when the director allows a gifted improv comic like Bill Murray to ad-lib lines. Some of the greatest screen moments result from it.
Thank you for a great month of movie trivia and memories, dear friend BB!
Thank you dear Shady for visiting every day. I always looked forward to reading your posts even when I had many musicals being showcased. I can't believe that I am now older than Judy Garland when she died at only 48...so ver sad. I know Kingpin and laughed so hard. You know the scene where Woody's character sleeps with his landlady and what she did to entice him?? Well, back in 1997, my ex and I went to Europe and we ended up in Prague at the train station at midnight. It was pretty seedy actually. My ex had to go to the loo and he asked the woman a question(she was watching over the washrooms), she was quite rude and looked a lot like that landlady. I was laughing and when my ex was walking back to me I did that certain thing she did with her tongue at my ex and he just about threw up right there....hahahahaaaa I was so cruel
DeleteCongratulations on completing the Challenge, Birgit. It has been so great to pop over each day. I have especially enjoyed your artwork of the letters. Have a great weekend and look forward to reading your future posts. Special thanks also for dropping my my blog. Much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Glad you liked all my letters and I have fallen behind and plan to catch up

ReplyDeleteAha! Now I know a bit of the humour you like:) thanks:)
DeleteWay to go Birgit. Not seen either of these movies but congratulations on finishing the challenge.
ReplyDeleteThank you and will be catching up with you also

I enjoyed your blog and thank you for visiting as well. Zombie land is not for everyone that's for sure

Haven't seen either of these.
ReplyDeleteYou did a good job with the challenge.
Maybe one day you will see these movies...maybe. Thank you:)
DeleteCongrats on linking them all. Bill Murray wasn't afraid to poke fun at Garfield either. Zombieland was a great movie.
ReplyDeleteHe was great in that movie and I,loved that he still went out to play golf
DeleteCongrats on finishing and finishing well! Of course I haven't seen either of these movies! I think you did a great job with your theme; lots of work went into it to pull them all together! Nicely done!
ReplyDeletebetty
Thank you so much. I did my best and found it a challenge. Thank you for visiting
DeleteBIRGIT ~
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on blogging your way through movies A to Z. I wasn't able to check in on all of them, but lots of 'em. And I'll need to backtrack through at some point and see what I missed. But nicely done!
Off the top of my head, I think my favorite "Z" movie is probably 'ZELIG' with Woody Allen. Very short film but it was clever and really had something to say.
Take a breath now, Birgit, because you have finally reached... Zeee End.

Oh my, you are finding your inner Zsa Zsa Gabour with the last words...hahahaa it was a challenge and I hope you do look through the others and let me know what you think. I have yet to see Zelig! I know, I have to see more Woody Aallen films. I had quite a long time that I just had enough of his neurotic style but I a, now wanting to get back to it
DeleteThis has been quite a month visiting your page and reading about all the super movies I've seen or haven't seen. Thanks for the great month and for sharing your very creative and beautiful cards, too.
ReplyDeleteGlad that you enjoyed my posts. I enjoyed yours as well
DeleteCongratulations on completing the challenge, Birgit and with such a clever theme! You're not the only one running behind.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen this movies and didn't know there was also an actor named James Stewart. Interesting.
We're all in need of some rest now. Have a good weekend!
Glad you liked my theme and loved yours. You are pulling my leg about Jimmy Stewart right??? It can be easily pulled:)
DeleteCongratulations for making it through!
ReplyDeleteReading the Ziegfeld Girl entry was like wanting to know the behind-the-scenes stories (not in a scandalous way) behind...every movie. I think that would be fun. Because there's a story behind every story. It's interesting that Chris Pine had a movie, Carriers, released the same year as Zombieland which was pretty much the straight version of it. Bill Murray's cameo is the most enduring part of Zombieland. Well, that and the Twinkies...
ReplyDeleteI would rather take the fun style of Zombieland and maybe I will find a Twinkie and eat it
DeleteI remember when Zombieland came out and thought it looked kind of fun to watch, better than the scary zombie movies. I now have quite a few interesting movies to add to my watchlist! You have done well with the six degrees and congrats on completing the challenge!
ReplyDeleteZombieland is bloody but so tongue and cheek and loved Bill Murray's cameo. Thank you and congrats to you also.
DeleteA great cast in the Ziegfeld girl! The only zombies I watch are in The Walking Dead. Not sure how I got hooked on that series but I did and now I'm waiting for the next season. Congrats on finishing the A-Z! Another great year for you and the movies :) Sharon
ReplyDeleteI was quite surprised that Jimmy Stewart was in this and he is secondary to the 3 girls but it is a good film and a plot we often see but this is one of the bette ones.thank you..it was hectic
DeleteA great achievement linking them all up! Congratulations on finishing the challenge.
ReplyDeleteThe Glasgow Gallivanter
Thank you..it was a challenge
DeleteYou made it to the end of the A-to-Z!! Yah!
ReplyDeleteYes and now playing catch up!
DeleteBirgit, you are FABULOUS!!!!! This was the Matryoshka dolls of A2Z Challenges: a challenge within a challenge within a challenge... Unbelievable. You ROCK! And you need to be very, very proud of yourself. This is GREAT. Congratulations!!!
ReplyDeleteGuilie @ Life In Dogs
Oh...thank you! I didn't even realize I did this much until seeing it here
DeleteAnd thank goodness that we're done, right?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on a fascinating month!
Yes...exciting when it starts and then kind of happy when it's over. Now I can get to dusting.
DeleteBirgit, we are on the same page with the "Z", aren't we? :) I would like to see Ziegfeld Girl. Unfortunately, I couldn't find it on Netflix or Amazon Prime. Zombieland is one I've wanted to watch, but it's also not available at no extra cost to me right now. So, I'll just file both films for a later date, hopefully, to see. Great way to close the A2Z challenge. Congrats on crossing the line with me, my friend! ;)
ReplyDeleteAll Things Vintage: Ziegfeld Follies and Girls
Bravo, Birgit!
ReplyDeleteDid Bill Murray have the quote from Zombieland? I could hear him say it:)
ReplyDeleteOh wow. And you tied it back to the first one! That's impressive.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on crushing A to Z! As for the movies, I'm not familiar with Ziegfeld Girl but I might have to check it out. Zombieland we're both very familiar with. Great movie. Glad to hear they're making a sequel. Maybe Bill Murray will be in it, even though he's dead? (Zombies, after all)
ReplyDeleteZiegfeld Girl shows how messed up people can be in the entertainment industry. Judy Garland was a very talented person, but she was also a very troubled person. This seems to be a common thread among those who are drawn to the performing arts.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on a successful completion of the A-Z challenge :) and I loved Zombie Land!
ReplyDeleteI'm still playing catch-up myself. I hope I can finally catch up today. Then I can rest. It's been a great series. I've loved your theme. You introduced me to some great new films. I will have to try and catch some of these.
ReplyDeleteNow that's a star-studded cast! Lana Turner was so beautiful. And loved Bill Murray's clip in Zombie land. Congrats! on finishing A to Z!
ReplyDeleteZombieland...so good. Murray's brief turn might be the best cameo of all time.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen either of these movies but Zombieland sounds like a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteLovely Z card!
Congratulations on making your way to Z. Now you can take a well-deserved break. Or not. You did well.

Zombieland... with Bill Murray? Okay, I'll put this one on my list of must-sees.
ReplyDeleteWho'd have thought Jimmy Stewart and Jackie Cooper would have been in Ziegfeld Girls....
ReplyDeleteHave a great evening, Birgit.
We did it! We finished the A-Z. I'm still tired and it's days after!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your theme. You presented some great movies and lots that I never heard of!
Congrats on a strong finish!
