Brag, Brag, Brag and no Shame
It's time again for the Insecure Writer's Support Group! I am not a writer but I feel I was in another life (shhh don't let Shirley Maclaine read this or she will say she was Jane Austin).
It tuned 50 on June 2nd! Yes ...Yes I did! I feel, mentally, like I am 30 but I am 50-a half century old. When I write this I feel like I should put on my best black babushka outfit and walk around wheeling a cart behind me with some hay.
My wonderful hubby made a "surprise" birthday party....I knew it was coming-pretty hard to fool me as my evil mind starts watching all the things that are happening. First off, my hubby is a Gemini like me which means he can't keep his mouth shut. He is also severe ADHD-basically Speedy Gonzales on speed. H would talk about how much he had to get done and cleaned. well that was the first big tip off for me. He cleans and is OCD anyway but he kept talking about it. He also wanted my recipe for my deviled eggs.
2nd -I was at work and saw that he called my friend who works there-another tip-she tried to cover but please I am like Columbo when it comes to these things. My other friend called Tuesday morn and was surprised to talk with me....he forgot that I don't start work until 11:30-...the plot thickens.
3rd-Michael got his birthday card from his Aunt and he didn't want me to see what was written so I knew she was coming. His sister also said his Aunt and Uncle were coming but they made it sound like this was the best time for them which it was but still.....
4th-Saturday-His sister-a wonderful gal who takes in all strays said she wanted to take me out and would be here at 10am-when I asked if it could be later My sweetie just about did a Fred Flinstone and blew his top and the roof and told me to be ready for 10-hahahaha. She was also here at 10! She is never, I repeat, never, on time. If you would ask me when she is on time I would be asking when Paris Hilton grew a brain.
So I went out, had a great time and great lunch and then we came back. I did not know all the details but suffice to say my hubby out did himself. All the effort and work he put into this showed his love to me (now you must say awwwwwwww:)) His bro in law made a great banner and my friends were all here. I had a wonderful time and consider myself truly blessed. The place was clean(wowzers), our dog Wallace was not freaked out and the cats hid...for the most part. There were streamers and balloons and food and cake which he did not bake for heaven's sake, too much time it would take. Friends, family, my hubby, Love, memories, joy-I am blessed

A belated Happy Birthday. How nice of your husband to plan your day.ReplyDelete
Thank you and he is a keeperDelete
Happy, Happy birthday to you! Sounds like it was a truly wonderful day.ReplyDelete
It was a great day. I would need a kick in the butt if i didn't:)Delete
Happy belated birthday! I know what you mean, I feel 35 when I'm really 56. My body reminds me a lot that I'm 56, LOL :)ReplyDelete
What a sweet thing your hubby did with the party, but I think I would have picked up on the clues too of something happening :)
My hubby cannot keep quiet-lol. My mind thinks I am 30, my body thinks it is George Burns:)Delete
Belated happy birthday! Fifty is not old. I hit that milestone later this year and I refuse to be old.ReplyDelete
Even if it wasn't a surprise - and there were a lot of clues - sounds like he still did a great job organizing it.
he did a great job organizing it and scored major points-hahahaha. You are a 64 er too then-beatles and all that-1964 is a great yearDelete
How exciting!!! I tried to plan a surprise party once and it's a LOT of work. I finally gave up and just told him I was planning it for him. That was in the day of answering machines--it's easier to plan surprises now that we all have our own phones. Happy birthday!ReplyDelete
It is a ton of work and he said that is the last time-lol. I still have an answering machine-hahahaa. Thanks!Delete
How sweet that he went to that much trouble. You pretended to be surprised, I hope. Oh, and Happy Birthday.ReplyDelete
he knew that I knew but I did not know to what extent so I was like a child seeing Christmas lights for the first time-It was overwhelming and wonderfulDelete
Awwwww! You're right, that absolutely deserves an 'Aw' :) This post had me laughing; I love the thought of you as Columbo the party detective! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I'm so glad it was such a wonderful party.ReplyDelete
It was a great party and so wonderful. I promise I did not dress up in a wrinkly coat thoughDelete
Happy belated birthday! Sounds like you have a fabby time! That husband is a keeper for sure....he CLEANS! And you, my friend, nothing short of a super sleuth! Fun was had by all and you get to keep the fond memories. (Well done, Wallace!)ReplyDelete
Wallace was great-he kept in his area but he was good. he does clean just doesn't dust-lol. Thank you!!Delete
Awww, love it! Your hubby sounds like he outdid himself! There's nothing better than a "surprise" birthday party! Happy belated birthday! So glad to hear it was a good day!! :)ReplyDelete
It was a great day! He did outdo himself for sureDelete
That's the sweetest thing ever! You're right about trying to fool Geminis.- it can't be done because we're naturally suspicious! I'm so pleased you had a great b-day! That's wonderful! (I got sick on my birthday - heat exhaustion, dehydration, vertigo - and have been sick for almost a week now. Bummer.)ReplyDelete
Welcome to the 50s club, my friend! I totally get where you're coming from your mind still thinking you're stuck in another decade or two or three or... My brain says I'm in my 20s, but my body has its limitation in appearance & movement reminding me that I'm not as young as I once was. Of course, I am very blessed with an over all health and very active for 52, so I have no complaints. You're so right this is whole experience is definitely a wowzer moment. That was extremely thoughtful, kind, and loving of your husband to spring an unsurprised birthday party on you. At least he tried. He has a good heart. :DReplyDelete
If I listened to my body I would be in a rocking chair covered in cats while I drank tea laced with whiskey:) My mind feels I am in my early 30's and can live to be 100:) He is thoughtful and so kind to have done thisDelete
Birgit, happy happy birthday to you! :-) My folks are pretty much like yours - can't keep a secret (and thank heavens for that). It is so much fun to see them going about, believing they're doing everything quietly when they're actually leaving signs all over the place. But I've become good at pretending I don't know.ReplyDelete
Your mention of Columbo had me thrilled. :D I have a post about him in my drafts - he's my all-time favorite TV character and I just love him! I have the whole box set of all the episodes. Ah, if we lived closer, what fun it would have been to watch it together! I turned 50 eight months ago!
Happy birthday again! So happy you had a wonderful birthday!
Hard to fool me:) Love Columbo-Thought he was excellent and still do as he is such an excellent actorDelete
Awwwww....see I said it :) You are really 25 at heart when it comes to living and enjoying life to the fullest, that's how I picture you through your words every time I read them :) Belated Happy Birthday, girl. It was so fun reading this post. Your husband did very well, but of course he couldn't have outsmarted you, you are Birgit! What a fun party it must have been. And enjoy the half-century mark...i will be joining you there in a couple of years :)ReplyDelete
I may have fallen off the turnip truck a few times but not this time:) I was excited to know what was in store. I am the gal who reads the last page first which gets me excited to read the whole book-strange but trueDelete
O me too. I also read the last page of the book first. That's why I hardly ever read mystery novels :) Didn't know there could be another one like me ;) Wow, so glad we met thanks to the blog world!Delete
Happy Birthday, Birgit. And now you get to celebrate being 50 for the entire year. You are so funny, I just know your year is going to be fabulous. How can you not with such a delightful family. Thanks for visiting my blog.ReplyDelete
Thank you and yes the whole year is mine and I will make it Fab-Thanks for visiting too:)Delete
The pot thickens! Happy b-day! : )ReplyDelete
Happy Birthday, Birgit!!! Hurrah for surprise parties, even when you know it's gonna happen. :-)ReplyDelete
