Weekly Song Challenge

I am joining my second week over at Jingle, Jangle, Jungle who created the challenge for some fun. She has chosen 3 themes each week where you pick a song that suits the theme. It can be the title of the song, in the lyrics, or the person who wrote it( I think I got this right). I am trying my best to pick 3 songs that come into my head first and just enjoy them( or not) but I am not an expert in music so don’t expect a long discussion on the piece of music like I do with my films. Anyway, the 3 themes are as follows:

Feb 17 - Week 7

A Spice;

A type of Tree (or just 'Tree')

A Unit of Measure

1. Incense & Peppermints-Strawberry Alarm Clock(who knew?)-1967

This is so 60s and hippy so what's not to love. I recall dancing to this in a wild flower child kind of way.

2. UNDER THE MANGO TREE-SUNG BY DIANA COUPLAND-1962

This was the first song that came into my head and I can't get it out of my head now. The voluptuous Ursula Andress sings this song when she walks onto the beach in her white bikini making every man stop thinking with that head on top of his shoulders. It's a cute song.

3. I WOULD WALK 500 MILES-THE PROCLAIMERS-1987

This is just a fun song that makes me feel good and I want to start jumping around like I did on the dance floor.

There are my 3 for this hump day...Any 3 you could pick?

  1. Hi, Birgit!

Just when I thought it was safe to file you under once a week bloggers... :) Hello again, dear friend! You know I can't resist a discussion of music, so here I am again.

I like your choices. It burns me up that Sean Connery got to squeeze Ursula Undress. It shoulda been Shady! The only artist and song I don't know is the Scottish alt. folk & alt. rock duo The Proclaimers doing their 1988 single "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" - (the official title for some reason) - a record that topped the charts in Australia, Iceland and New Zealand.

    My picks for the prompt:

    A Spice;
A type of Tree (or just 'Tree')
    A Unit of Measure

    would be many and varied.

"Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme" - S&G

    "Jackson" - Johnny Cash/Nancy & Lee:

We got married in a fever, hotter than a pepper sprout

    "Cinnamon" - Derek

"San Francisco Girls (Return of the Native)" - Fever TREE

    "Dang Me" - Roger Miller:

    Dang me, dang me
They oughta take a rope and hang me
    High from the highest tree
Woman, would you weep for me?

"The Oak Tree" - Morris Day

"(There Was A) Tall Oak Tree" - Dorsey Burnette

    "Lemon Tree" - Trini Lopez

    "Honey" - Bobby Goldsboro:

See the tree, how big it's grown

    "25 Miles" - Edwin Starr

"26 Miles (Santa Catalina)" - The Four Preps

    "500 Miles" - PP&M

There are a gazillion songs about units of measuring TIME. A few that pop into my mind are:

"It Only Takes A Minute" - Taveres

"Twenty Four Hours from Tulsa" - Gene Pitney

Oh I was only 24 hours from Tulsa
Ah only one day away from your arms

    "Day After Day" - Badfinger

"Holding Back The Years' - Simply Red

"In the Year 2525" - Zager and Evans

"2000 Light Years from Home" - Rolling Stones (measures both time and distance)

"Sixteen Tons" - Tennessee Ernie Ford (measuring weight)

You could also point to the artist name Lovin' Spoonful as an example of a unit of measure.

See you "At The Movies", dear friend BB!

  6. Excellent job! Sorry for the late response. I literally spent all day at the doctor's office. All's (mostly) good there. Thanks again for joining the challenge :)

  7. What a fun series! 500 Miles is a fantastic choice and so is Under the Mango Tree - it's such a happy little ear worm.

  9. Birgit,

Way to go! You did well playing along. I like coming up with the first thing that comes to mind but this week the ones I thought of I've used in recent months so I sought help so I used DuckGo to find three new songs that worked nicely. Thanks for visiting! Have a great evening!
