TriviCan ya guess the movie I picked?

Oh me oh my...OK so I am feeling a little like death warmed over from completing the A to Z challenge (applause here) but onward to the next gig!

Over at Mock and the Armchair Squid they have started a film society where a movie is chosen each month and we need to watch and critique it. This month is a trivia challenge where we give 3 clues that the others have to guess. The actual film will be revealed on May 8th.  So here are my 3 clues:

  1. The film, one of my all time favourites, pays homage to the classic screwball comedy classics of the 1930's even though it was made in the early 1970's.
     2. The main character not only acts but sings and directs in real life as well.

     3. It is the introduction of a famous lady who starred in more than one Mel Brooks comedies

     4. Ok, ok, we are to stop at 3 but I always like to bend the rules a little...or break them, so my 4th clue is that it has one of THE best screwball chase scenes ever!

So there ya go, let's see if you can guess this classic. Have a great Friday everyone. Whoever completed the A to Z challenge-congrats to all of you!

  2. Was going to go with it's a mad mad mad world, but that was the 60's. So Blazing Saddles?

  3. I would say Blazing Saddles too, but Mel Brooks isn't the star...so that had me thinking History of the World, but that's 81...

    1. Nope-both great but this film was done in 1972...hint-the lead I mentioned is a woman

  4. No idea...but I have a feeling my husband would know. He's always watching 70s screwball comedies.

  5. Okay, here's how I attacked your clues. The most helpful was that the female lead also sings and directs and the movie came out in the early 70s. That helps nail her age now. I sat and pondered that and only one person came to mind. However, I'm not familiar enough with her movie work to know the titles, particularly early 70s. So, I went to this site called IMDB.com and plugged in her name. Then I scrolled down to what she'd done in the early 70s. There was one movie that looked promising, so I clicked over to see the full cast of THAT movie. Turns out the other female in the movie did indeed go on from there to star in Mel Brooks movies. So, I figured it out, but not sure it was entirely kosher (since I needed help from IMDB). Of course, if I'd started out with the wrong female lead, I wouldn't have gotten anywhere. Had that happened, I'd have been like Bugs Bunny haring around for a carrot and piping, "What's up doc?", but gotten absolutely nowhere. However, I think I figured out your movie:)

  6. Hi, BB! I promise I didn't cheat by looking at anybody else's "paper." Clue #3 was the one that got me thinking about the late, great Madeline Kahn, the comic actress used in several Mel Brooks movies. That led me straight to "The Barbra" who starred opposite Ryan O'Neal in the 1972 comedy What's Up, Doc? which featured an epic chase scene.

  7. Clueless here, LOL :) I'll have to wait until you reveal it :) A/Z was fun, but it is nice to have a manageable amount of blogs to read this morning :) I didn't have a chance to read blogs yesterday until the evening, usually I divide the time during the day before work and on lunch break. Took me over 2-1/2 hours to get through all of them :)

  9. Blazing Saddles? I don't recall singing and Mel Brooks didn't really play a main character. It can't be Funny Girl because Streisand didn't direct it. Now, I'm going to go Google your clues.

  10. I didn't cheat and look up on IMDb. I wanted to guess.
I think I have a idea but we shall see.

  11. Okay, I'm guessing without looking at the other answers first, but is it Blazing Saddles? It has a really screwball chase scene at the end. I can't remember who the lead was though.

  13. Just so you know I'm not cheating by Googling....
    Is the actress Madeline Kahn?
The only movie I can think of would possibly maybe be Blazing Saddles. But, then I tried to think of an homage to the screwball classics of the 1930s and since BS was a Western, I didn't initially think that fit.
Thennnnnnnn....I remembered that scene during the fight when they crashed into a sound set that was performing a song and dance like something from the 30s.
"Put out your hands...stick out your tush."
    "Ah work fer Mel Brooks!"
    Maybe Blazing Saddles?
