Wandering through the Shelves- Movies you're looking forward to in 2019

‘‘Tis the season to be nutso, dipso busy as hell. Sorry for not commenting and visiting due to Christmas and decorating which everyone can relate to but I fell flat. This weekend my great friend, from Vancouver, came to visit with a cold. I overdid it from hours of decorating and now I have a bad cold and no voice....blecchhh. This week it is about the future....films coming in 2019. Let’s see what the others will choose over at Wandering Through The are my 3....

About half of the Avengers bit the dust while others are floating around in space or appear to be safe. Yes, well, like any soap opera, they are never really, truly dead and I am certain time travel will appear.

My hubby found this on PBS and we were hooked and have the whole series on DVD. Now a movie is coming and we can’t wait to see what has happened to Lady Mary, poor Edith, their very nice parents, the great Maggie Smith with her one-liners and all the staff and their shenanigans.

I have to admit that I had to look and see what was coming and when I saw this, it’s a film I want to see because I love the book so much. I read the book at least 6 times because I love wolves and dogs. This will star Harrison Ford who is a bit long in the tooth to play the lead. There is a 1935 version starring Clark Gable and Loretta Young and the Stars got quite cozy producing a daughter that Young brought up as an “adopted” child, but I digress. There have been other versions made so we shall see how this will do.

What are you looking forward to?

  1. I didn't realize there was another Star Trek with Picard coming out. These all are on my list. The Star Trek too. Thanks for letting me in on that little bit of info. Happy holidays! Hugs-Erika

  2. Hi, Birgit!

I'm sorry you came down with a cold, dear friend. I hope you are back to feeling 100% by Christmas.

Avengers Endgame looks exciting. First thing I noticed about the trailer is how the booming music and sound FX do all the talking instead of having an announcer do voice-over narration. Remember the deep voiced announcer heard on many trailers of the 90s and 2000s setting the scene with the words, "In a world..."? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think narration is used nearly as often on trailers produced in recent years.

If a Downton Abbey film is coming then Mrs. Shady and I will surely want to see it. We never missed an episode of the TV series. Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) is my favorite along with maid Anna Bates (Joanne Froggatt). I am very happy to see that nearly all of the original cast members are taking part in the film and that Tuppence Middleton who played Riley Blue on Sense8 (and is featured on my blog as a "presenter") will be joining the cast. Mrs. Shady is "over" Harrison Ford and therefore I doubt she will want to see Call of the Wild, even if I do. I see that two new Star Trek films are in development at Paramount. Mrs. Shady will want to see them, but I didn't follow the TV series and have zero interest in the film series.

Get well soon, dear friend BB!

  3. Definitely Avengers and Godzilla as well.
Excellent bonus choice. Heck if I'm going to miss a Star Trek show staring Patrick Stewart!

  4. We match on Avengers: Endgame! I forgot Downton Abbey was making a movie, I'm sure that will do really well.

  5. Wow, I have trouble keeping up with current movies let alone know what is coming. I rarely see anything in the theatres, but a Downtown Abbey movie might just get me there. Happy Holidays!

  6. I've definitely been looking forward the "Downton Abbey" movie. I think "Call of the Wild" deserves a reread, as it has been years.

Have a very Merry Christmas Birgit!

  7. It's too bad you caught your friend's cold. I hope you are better by Christmas. I've never seen any of these previous ones, except Star Trek and would like to see Picard. I never saw a single Downton Abby, but I had a friend who lived for it.

Although it's slated to open Christmas day, I would love to see Vice, the story of Cheney, Bush's VP. He was not a nice man, and this might make me like him even less (grin).

  8. "Poor" Edith did pretty well for herself by the end of the show. I'm looking forward to that, as well.

I hope you feel better soon.

  9. I didn't know they were making a Downton Abbey movie. I'm pretty sure I'll pass it as I'm yet to watch the show.

  10. I'm looking forward to the Downton Abbey film but couldn't care less about the other two.

    I'm looking forward to these:

Greyhound (Tom Hanks & Elisabeth Shue)-Nazi U-boats pursue a convoy of Allied ships during the early days of World War II. Love Hanks and Shue and like war films so if everything comes together it should be good.

Rocketman (Taron Egerton)-A biopic about Elton John. It's a well worn genre but at least the music will be good for sure and I think Egerton is good casting.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (Brad Pitt & Leonardo DiCaprio)-In 1969 Los Angeles, a former Western star and his longtime stunt double struggle to find success in a Hollywood that they don't recognize anymore. I'm variable on Tarantino and I'm very concerned how Sharon Tate's and the other murders will be presented but with that cast I'm willing to wait and see.

  11. Avengers is sure my top choice, hopefully it lives up to the many year wait. The call of the wild probably won't be bad. Never did watch Downtown Abby.

  12. I didn't know they were making a movie.

  13. Star Trek and Avengers, definitely. I have yet to see Downtown Abby.Maybe the movie will be my introduction to it. Take care over there.

  14. Sorry you're not feeling well, Birgit. Here's hoping you'll be better in time to enjoy Christmas. Thanks for the movie previews. Picard would be number one for me from this list. Right now,I'm excited about Aquaman, which we likely will go see on Boxing Day. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

  15. Since they are so dead-set to avoid giving the second part of Avengers: Infinity War its logical title, Avengers: Infinity War, Part Two, they should call the new Avengers movie Avengers: Nobody Really Died...

  16. I'm so unexcited about newer movies. Seems like we have a lot of remakes and sequels to look forward to. I did hear about an upcoming film the other day that I thought sounded interesting, but now I can't remember what it is. Maybe I'll remember it later.

  17. Those are some fun movie choices! Hope your holiday season is bright and blessed!
