Wednesday Song Fest...Time.

Can you believe it is 2023?! It’s just so wild how fast time does fly. Harley was so happy in the snow! (he wears a muzzle because he grabs anything he can off the ground to eat so it is for his protection) Now, I still have all my Christmas stuff up because Little Christmas is January 6th also known as 3 King’s Day and Ukrainian Christmas. I will start to take a few things down here and there but will really start Saturday. Time never changes but we look at it differently depending what we are doing. Thinking about time made me think of songs and the first one came right into my head.

1. TIME PASSAGES SUNG BY AL STEWART-1978

I enjoyed listening to this song back in the day and had no idea until now that it is based on a trip home for Christmas and thinking about all the times past. Pretty cool that it is almost a Christmas song. Well, it could be.

2. AS TIME GOES BY SUNG BY DOOLEY WILSON-1942

We all know this famous song  from the great film, “Casablanca”  which is considered one of the best film songs ever created. it was written by Herman Hupfeld back in 1931 for the musical "Everybody's Welcome" and has been sung by countless others from Jimmy Durante to Vera Lynn.

3. TIME IN A BOTTLE SUNG BY JIM CROCE-1972

I have his album, I believe, which was given to me by my brother. I always loved his voice and had no idea, until later, that he died tragically in a plane crash in 1973. He wrote this song back in 1970 when he found out his wife, Ingrid, was pregnant. Now, Jim would be turning 80 this year and his son 53...freaky!

What songs make you think of time

  1. Hi, Birgit, and woof-woof to your snuggle bunny Harley! I wish I could take him for walks in the snow. I've got my fingers crossed for a snowstorm here in Florida tomorrow, but with a forecast high of 77 degrees it's... shall we say... "iffy"?

Your Wednesday offering is a timely post indeed because, as you have seen, I have a post running that promotes Dot Everest's new
show on S-P-M-M called 7 on the Dot...TICK TICK TICK. Every song Dot will play on her show has to do with time.

Yessum, I remember Scottish singer/songwriter/musician Al Stewart who was part of British folk revival of the 60s and 70s. Al enjoyed his greatest success in the mid to late 70s with "Year Of The Cat" and the song you posted, "Time Passages."

"As Time Goes By" is indeed a famous song known to millions of boomers and recorded by many different artists over the years. I was introduced to it in boyhood when Jimmy Durante sang it.

Jim Croce's "Time In A Bottle" always makes me sad, because I instantly remember his death at a very early age, one of the many music stars who died in plane crashes. Here's the wicked Wiki list:

    Glenn Miller (1944) ...
Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper (1959) ...
    Patsy Cline (1963) ...
    Jim Reeves (1964) ...
    Otis Redding (1967) ...
    Jim Croce (1973) ...
    Lynyrd Skynyrd (1977) ...
    Randy Rhoads (1982)...
    Rick Nelson (1985)...
    Stevie Ray Vaughan (1990)...
    John Denver (1997)...
    Aaliyah (2001)

Three time tunes that immediately come to my mind are:

    1) "If I Could Turn Back Time" by Cher
    2) "Turn Back The Hands Of Time" by Tyrone Davis
    3) "Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper

Have a wonderful Wednesday, dear friend BB. I'll be waiting for you tomorrow, sitting in the balcony-- "At the Movies!"

  2. Birgit,

Happy New Year, my friend! I love pets but I'd really hate to have to take one outdoors especially in the cold and snow which is a big part of y'alls winters. I'm with you, I can't believe how fast time slips by and like you things for the most part stay the same. I looking forward to positive changes for the new year. I have my fingers crossed and prayers lifted that this is the year that we find our new forever home. :)

I enjoyed your song selections. Feel free to link up with the 4M party, if you want. You're always welcome! I pray for God's blessings to be with you throughout 2023, dear friend. Take easy and have a wonderful week!

  4. I can always be relied upon for a Leonard Cohen song - “Closing time”. Also related - “I’ve had the time of my life”, because Jennifer Warnes worked closely with Leonard at one time.

  5. Oh, wow: "Time" by the Chambers Brothers, "Time (Clock of the Heart)" by Culture Club, "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is" by Chicago, "If I Could Turn Back The Hands Of Time" by Tyrone Davis, "The Syncopated Clock" by Leroy Anderson, etc.

  6. First song that came to mind for me was "Time Has Come Today" by the Chambers Brothers (as mentioned above). Make sure you listen to the full 11-minute version. The shorter radio-friendly version made the pop charts back in the day but, every once in a while, some DJ would play the long version and it was always a treat.
