Thursday Movie Picks:TV Edition-Foreign Language Shows

So, I got...nuttin'! This week is nadda for me but I will check out what Wandering Through The Shelves will have as well as the others. Since it's American Thanksgiving, I thought I would pick some memorable TV episodes about this holiday starting with the best...

1. WKRP IN CINCINNATI: TURKEY DROP-1978

To say I died laughing is an understatement. I was laughing so hard my sides hurt. To this day, saying, " They're dropping like pieces of wet cement." Makes most people from my time laugh. Apparently  this is based on a true story...only in America.

2. CHEERS: THANKSGIVING ORPHANS-1986

The gang are welcomed over at Carla's house where they must wait for the bird to be cooked. A food fight ensues in which the 3 Stooges would be proud.

3. FRIENDS: THE ONE WHERE ROSS GOT HIGH-1999

There are more than just one episode about this holiday but when Rachel screws up the trifle dessert, it made me laugh so much.

4. EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND: FIGHTING IN-LAWS- 2000

Debra finds out, from Ray, that her parents are splitting just when she is ready to deal with the turkey. OMG...I laughed and laughed.

5. THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW: THE ELEPHANT STORY-1978

Family...Vicki Lawrence plays the mom to Eunice, played by Carol Burnett. Harvey Korman plays Eunice's husband. Dick Van Dyke was in the sketch and the great Tim Conway, who could keep in character and always make Korman laugh. Well, this time, he kept going making everyone laugh but for Mama..Mama brings it all home putting everyone on the floor. Again  I just was laughing, and laughing.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Here is a pic of my hubby and I, all Cinderellad out, for the work Christmas party  and another of my sweet Harley.

He has a muzzle on vecauae he pucks up anything he can to eat it from plastic bags to rotted barnacles.

    Hi, Birgit!

Dear friend, may I assume that you couldn't find my comment on yesterday's post in your spam folder? If not, I can compose another one if you'd like. Please let me know. I hope today's comment doesn't vanish the way that one did.

I like how you punted on this topic and elected to celebrate Thanksgiving with your friends in the U.S. by posting scenes from T-giving episodes of popular comedy shows. I watched all of these series first run, some more regularly than others.

That WKRP sketch is a classic and clearly inspired by The Hindenburg disaster of 1937. "Oh, the humanity!" is a direct quote from that tragic event in which a radio news reporter frantically described the terror unfolding before his eyes as the doomed blimp crashed and burned.

The Friends sketch about Rachel's dessert was nicely done and very funny.

The "Angry Debra" turkey episode from Raymond is another classic. You can't rehearse a scene like that precisely, because I'm sure the slippery bird behaved differently in every take during rehearsal. The sequence captured here and used in the episode that aired was perfect, including the finish when Debra slams the turkey into the oven and marches off camera.

I regularly watched The Carol Burnett Show. For me, most of the fun was watching the other players go limp as jellyfish as Tim Conway did his character portrayals. Whether scripted or spontaneous, Vicki Lawrence's line was the bomb that sealed the deal on that funny sketch.

Look at you... all gussied up for the office Christmas party! You're mighty purty. I'm sure you were the belle of the ball, Birgit. And there's my good buddy Harley. Thanks for including a pic of my favorite smooch monster.

Enjoy the rest of your week and weekend, dear friend BB!

    1. Yes! I saw the span message. I wonder why it went In there. I wonder if I can make it safe. I have to look into that. I'm glad you enjoyed all of these. They are so funny. That WKRP episode is an all time classic and it is done in homage to that reporter from The Hindenburg disaster. I bet the actress from Raymond may have fallen on other takes because the floor looks so slippery. I can watch that Carol Burnett episode over and over...so funny.

  4. That's a very nice picture of you and your husband. I can't remember ever seeing a full-length picture of you.

All of these clips are hilarious. Tim Conway join Don Knotts as two of the funniest people God ever put on earth.

  8. Birgit,

You went with some great memories from TV Land. They don't make shows like this anymore. The humor from these series still leave me clutching my side. :D You and your Sweetie are lookin' good! Thanks for making me smile, no it wasn't the picture of you two, but all of the great vintage skits from some of TV's best programs over the years. Have a boogietastic week, my dear!

  9. Such a beautiful post, I want to share a testimony on how Dr itua healing herbs cure me.
The worst time has passed”However, it is true that there are more improvements than before...because of the rising numbers of people living with HIV in the state of Nevada. How could they stigmatize all of them? Therefore everything becomes a little easier and we start to share everything... We also started to invite and visit each other in a community. You know, it is six years since I started taking antiretroviral drugs...Yet whatever problems I face, the worst time has passed
When I was evicted from the family home by my mother, my father rented a small room for me. But my mother and brothers believed that having HIV was my own fault – and that I deserved to be punished...I also considered myself unworthy and without hope... But I have a child and eventually I convinced myself to live for my child’s sake.
My mother knew nothing [about HIV]. She didn’t understand anything. Do you know why? She didn’t have [the chance] to go out of the house and communicate with society. However, my father does interact with the community. I know his friends are mature and dignified in africa america. So he has a better understanding than her.
My father came call me on a sadfull day sitting on my couch about a friend of his from africa who introduce him to Dr Itua herbal cure in africa in which he advise we should purchase his herbal medicine to cure my hiv so we did and Dr Itua prescribed I should drink the herbal medicine for two weeks to cure although we were so curious about the whole thing ,I finished the herbal medicine like he advised then he talked to me to visit my nearest clinic for check up I did and now I'm totally cured from Hiv my father was my rock and I and my family are now happy together also Dr Itua has be helpful in my community ever since he cure my Hiv and my tinnitus so why I'm leaving my story on here today is to reach out someone out here to hope on God and never give up no matter the situation you that you are facing especially through this pandemic seasons which has really taught us all on how we should be helpful to each other and cherish one another.

  10. Thank you for this wonderful post, I want to use this opportunity to share about My life how I strunggled with Hiv/Aids Disease before the Lord Jesus in my life as a candle light in the darkness. You showed me the meaning of faith with your words. I know that even when I cried all day thinking about how to recover, you were not sleeping, you were dear to me. I contacted the herbal center Dr Itua, who lived in West Africa. A friend of mine here in Hamburg is also from Africa. She told me about African herbs but I was nervous. I am very afraid when it comes to Africa because I heard many terrible things about them because of my Christianity. god for direction, take a bold step and get in touch with him in the email and then move to WhatsApp, he asked me if I can come for treatment or I want a delivery, I told him I wanted to know him I buy ticket in 2 ways to Africa To meet Dr. Itua, I went there and I was speechless from the people I saw there. Patent, sick people. Itua is a god sent to the world, I told my pastor about what I am doing, Pastor Bill Scheer. We have a real battle beautifully with Spirit and Flesh. Adoration that same night. He prayed for me and asked me to lead. I spent 2 weeks and 2 days in Africa at Dr Itua Herbal Home. After the treatment, he asked me to meet his nurse for the HIV test when I did it. It was negative, I asked my friend to take me to another nearby hospital when I arrived, it was negative. I was overwhite with the result, but happy inside of me. We went with Dr. Itua, I thank him but I explain that I do not have enough to show him my appreciation, that he understands my situation, but I promise that he will testify about his good work. Thank God for my dear friend, Emma, I know I could be reading this now, I want to thank you. And many thanks to Dr. Itua Herbal Center. He gave me his calendar that I put on my wall in my house.
