The Oscars!

Oh yes! It is that time again when many, many people, but few I know, watch the Oscars. This Sunday will be the telecast for us to watch all the beautiful people( aka the pushed up ta-ta's, face stretched, botoxed lipped, watermelon butts, I just eat healthy non humans), in their gowns and tuxes walk down the red carpet all vying for a gold statue. If Moses appears to them, they better start to sweat!.

Is it just me or are you also sick of seeing huge asses that can cast a shadow over Cleveland and dresses cut down the middle where their cantaloupe boobies are all to see. One dare not say classless because it is all the rage right now. I love the elegance of Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn but I also miss the  WTF outfits of Cher and Bjork.

I miss my dad for many reasons but watching the Oscars is one of them. He loved all these awards shows and  we would watch the Oscars together. For that reason my first memory of the Oscars is the streaker. Yup, a streaker ran across the stage while David Niven was speaking.  My next memory was Sacheen Littlefeather denying the Oscar for Marlon Brando. He hired her to say "No" to Oscar because of the plight of the Indians because he was too much of an ass to go up there himself.  He did take the Oscar later on after all and Sacheen was found out to be an actress.  Now the juicy part of Vanessa Redgrave winning and then commenting on Zionist Hoodlums in her acceptance speech brought on the censoring of what people say. I remember my dad saying a few choice words and then Bob Hope and Frank Sinatra saying something after. Vanessa was not allowed to come back for years. Susan Sarandon and Tin Robbins were also not really invited for a few years due to their political outspoken views. People often loved to say something political at these awards...I miss that because  they often sounded so, so...stupid.

Who remembers Rob Lowe singing with Snow White to CCR's "Proud Mary"? This catastrophe was happening while laser beams were being directed at them in some make shift "I am saving Snow White" theme. I was truly hoping it was Logan's Run and they would have been vaporized because it was that bad. I recall the laughable Debbie Allen choreographed  numbers to the best costumes. Seeing Henry the 5th costumed dancers was quite hilarious-laser beams should have been there as well and blotto all of these dancers right out along with Debbie Allen.

The we have the speeches to contend with. Now most are boring and they thank the usual people but what always kills me is when they thank God. I mean, really? Do they not get the irony? They are thanking God for letting them win a Golden statue, like God is so happy that they won this over stopping children from starving, animals being abused or war starting some where. Who wanted to slap Tom Hanks when he won for Philadelphia? Who wanted to slap Gwyneth Paltrow for winning or just because she talks? Who is with me?

With all this, I love it! I love the outfits, scream at the T.V. when someone is wearing a blah dress and no necklace. What the hell is wrong with wearing a necklace? Screw the bracelets! Ok yes I am sad but I do like this type of crap.  So I have my own little list for people who watch the Oscars. I have not seen many of these films so I am with most of you especially with the short films, documentaries, animated shorts and the sound mixing and sound editing (what is the difference??).  So,  Here are my questions for The Oscars!

1. Who is best dressed?
2. Who is worst dressed?
3. Which film would you be really happy if they won in their category?
4. Which film would make you kick your TV in if they win? (mine is Boyhood)
5. Which acceptance speech was the best?
6. Which acceptance speech was the most boring? (take a pick-more than one I am sure)
7. Which drug are they on? You know, some go up and you wonder WTF they are doing?
8. Which actor/actress would you love to see get a pie in the face? or see trip?
9. Who wishes for a gaudy 1970's musical number? I hope they have one at least

OK there you have it:) Some of you don't watch this, I know but for those who do..I hope to read your answers:) Now repeat after me..."You like Me...You really, really like me!" Oh I do predict Snorehood winning Best Picture & director (I pray not), Michael Keaton winning Best Actor and Patricia Arquette winning Best  Supporting Actress. Julianne Moore will win best Actress and J.K. Simmons for Whiplash in Best Supporting Actor.  So now we wait for the show:)

  2. LOL, you had me laughing through most of this. I remember the streaker! I remember too about Marlon Brando not wanting to accept his Oscar too (does that make me old?) I haven't watched the Oscars in years but used to look forward to them with all the glamour, etc. What is really funny is when we lived in the Southern California area, how much news coverage they gave to the Oscars and the red carpet.

I agree totally about thanking God after they win. Would these same people thank God if they lost?

    1. It is fun to see those past Oscar moments. I am certain they are not thinking about God when they have lost

  3. I love how outspoken and personal this post is!

    And as for your questions:

    1) Best dressed, if I had to guess, will be Emma Stone
    2) Worst dressed, I'm thinking, will be Jennifer Aniston
    3) I want to see Birdman win Best Picture
    4) We all know I'll HATE to see Boyhood win
    5) I'm thinking that if/when Keaton wins, his acceptance speech will top all acceptance speeches
    6) Arquette's acceptance speeches all year have put me in a coma, so her
    7) Redmayne is on a drug called self-indulgence
    8) LOL, I want Julianne Moore to pie all the remaining nominees, not because they don't deserve to be nominated or even to beat her maybe, but just because she's finally getting her Oscar and she's amazing
    9) I'd put money on the fact that we're gonna get one

    1. Jennifer Aniston is so boring in her dresses and hair-Zzzzzzz. Let's hope Boyhood doesn't win but I fear it will. Patricia is a bore and let's keep our fingers crossed for some tacky number

    1. Yes-either one loves watching these shows or one never watches them. Billy Crytsal was the best with his songs

Yeah, avoid the political stuff, people. The Oscars is not the place for it.

  8. I know, WTH!? I mean, on one hand these women want to be treated with respect, as equals to men, as intelligent, talented, creatives. They do this by showing off their nipples...oops, the fabric slipped!? Get some self-respect, ladies! You're doing a disservice to all. And your wide booty ain't pretty. Are they reserving two seats at the Oscar's for you?

    1. If the chairs have arm rests their wide ass won't be able to slip into the seat or they will take the seat with them when they try to get up. Between the down to there cleavage and the up to Ho-ha slit-doesn't leave much to the imagination

    2. So true, sister. Oh my, Birgit. Have I mentioned recently that I love your humor? I'm adding you to the my list of blog friends I MUST go drinking with some time. Oh wait, I added you long ago. It's gonna be a blast.

  10. I am really not into it this year, which is interesting because I am usually so there. I don't think I've seen any of the movies, nor do I care to.

I've never cared about the dresses. I DVR the thing so I buzz through many of the acceptance speeches. And I never watch the arrivals (I don't care about the dresses).

I'm sure I'll watch. I always watch. But I think I'll be more fixated on trying to predict what Entertainment Weekly will say about it next week.

  11. I remember the streaker and all the other incidents you mentioned except dancing in the best costumes. I don't want to hurt your feelings, but I love Boyhood. If something else wins, it's okay with me because I haven't seen the other movies and I've heard great things about Birdman. I DVR the Oscars and other awards shows that interest me. Then I run through the show and watch what I want. I just realized that although I remember Rob Lowe singing to Snow White, I don't remember him singing Proud Mary. I don't care what people wear. I just wish they wouldn't let so much hang out. I once tweeted that I don't know why Kim K. is lauded for her butt, but my nickname is Fat Ass.

    Love,
    Janie

  12. I used to love watching the Oscars, Birgit. Now we're without television for 6 months. We moved cities and though there's a TV at home, we just have bothered to hook it up! So I can't comment on your list. :)
Enjoy the Oscars and may the best people win!

  13. My mother used to love any award show. She'd always watch them and then give me the report the next day. I'll probably watch--or at least half watch--the Oscars since it's the one award show that I've watched since I was a kid. I haven't seen a single movie yet, so I don't have that much interest this year. But it is a tradition.

I'm not sure I get the big butt phenomena. I've been hearing about women getting butt enhancements and I don't understand why they would want to do that. I'm still of the old school like a friend of a friend of mine once said, "I don't want to be with a woman whose butt is bigger than mine." The way he said it was probably funny than it looks in print, but that made me laugh.

  14. I used to really enjoy the Oscars when I was younger than now. I think it was because I was more up on the current films and because they used to have amazing hosts, like Billy Crystal and Whoopi Goldberg. Now, you never know who you'll get as host... I hope you have a wonderful time watching!

  15. I can't tell if it's just my age that has me not caring anymore or if Hollywood just isn't as interesting as it used to be. All the entertainment mags/shows focus on reality stars now, with people like Kim Kardashian being considered our 'celebrities' while real movie stars are ignored. That's when I lost interest in all of it. I watched the Oscars every year until around 2000...that's when it seemed to turn sour for me.

    1. Yes you are right about so called celebrities. They are just whores to the camera in my opinion. I think more people have tuned out but I am not one of them:)

  16. I used to watch them almost every year, but haven't for ages. I think I have just lost interest in Hollywood. But it also could be that I am bitter for not having won Best Actor in 2012...

  17. Ok, gotta put my geek hat on for just a minute. I apologize...

Tom Hanks was in Philadelphia. Jimmy Stewart was in The Philadelphia Story.

    Okay, hat off...

I loved Boyhood, actually. I'll be surprised and a bit disappointed if it doesn't win. Then again, the only other BP nominee I've seen is Selma so my info is incomplete. I'd like to see Tale of Princess Kaguya win for best animated feature - beautiful film.

  18. I don't usually watch the whole awards ceremony, but I do catch parts of it. I am always fascinated by the outfits and seeing who the winners are is fun. I like that you and your dad had a tradition of watching the Oscars together. :)

  19. I also remember the year of the streaker with David Niven. Billy Crystal was my favorite host. I've always loved his creative opening numbers, and my favorite year was when Jack Palance from City Slickers did push-ups on stage! Though NPH is very talented, I think Jimmy Fallon is the next best thing to Billy Crystal. I also don't
like those plunging necklines where they look like they're a thread away from setting
themselves free. The Imitation Game is my pic for Best Picture and Best Actor. Following the Oscars, is a Jimmy Kimmel After The Awards Special, which is often better than the ceremony itself.

  20. There have been a few bombs, haven't there? Still it's the glam and excitement of the glitterate that keeps us coming back.

  21. Ah, the Oscars: a group of millionaire celebrities all pat each other on the back and reward each other with gold statues. As you can guess, we're not big fans. It has its own charms, I know, but if there's anything interesting we can catch the recap. Plus, winning an Oscar never guarantees that a movie is actually good. Or the person is good. After all, Nicolas Cage has an Oscar... but Leonardo DiCaprio doesn't.

  22. I'm reading this way after the fact as usual. Due to an unexpected change in time zone we missed the red carpet which is my favorite part. I was reading during the majority of the event so I missed most of the great moments. Jimmy would say look at this and I'd have to put on my glasses so I'd miss it. I liked that a dog was thanked. Love your post.
