So, a couple of weeks back, the lovely Jo at Jo on Food, Life and a Scent of Chocolate, who can't wait for bowling each week had a picture up of a bowling ball. I am not sure if this is her own Bowling ball but I bet it is. I loved the swirly look of white and purple on the ball and immediately thought of a Christmas card. Yup, her bowling ball was my inspiration. Also I had seen a beautiful card, over at 52 Christmas cards, created by one of the design team members, Fabiola, who I just had to copy..um...I mean emulate:) I think her card is nicer but that is just me. I must take in the Insecure Writer's Support Group motto by not doubting.

I enjoyed making this card by, first, sponging shades of purple and green on a white background. I took purple distress ink, wet it down and, with a brush, made the swirls on a cut out circle, added white sparkle and the silver stickles. I stamped a bough branch a couple of time plus added stickles on the branches. I used pop up dots to have the ornament hang from the branch and added a silver string and made a bow! I then mounted it on green and purple cardstock. I hope you like it Jo:)

  1. That must be a strong Yule tree to support a bowling ball ornament, dear Birgit! :) Shades of green and purple are my favorite color combo and the ball certainly does look like a custom made bowling ball. Well done!

  6. Amazing. A bowling ball would not inspire me to do anything but run. I am a terrible bowler.

  7. Love it, especially the cute string bow! I bowled when I was a tween and had the same purple swirl ball! ;)

  16. Yes, I do like it. Most attractive. I would point out to everyone who commented though that the original ball is for 5 pin bowling which none of you, except possibly Birgit herself, will have tried unless you came to Canada. 5 pin is uniquely Canadian. So, I hope you are sending me that card Birgit LOL

    1. I can only do 5 pin whenever I bowl as the others are too heavy for my joints. Now LOL or not, If you would like the card, I made it with you in mind so I will gladly send it to you, just e-mail me

  17. That looks like my bowling ball! I don't bowl, it was an early gift from my husband.

I've lost my ability to comment on blogspot posts except as unknown.

  23. Beautiful card. The idea of a bowling ball ornament makes me anxious. I can't help worrying about the weight! You should do a curling stone next. Those things are what, 20 kg?

  27. This is clever & oh, so pretty. Love that you added in the tree branches in top corner to support the bowling ball. This would be great to use some small zentangle circles I don't know what to do with! The how-to was great fun to read, and love the creativity of this idea. Must join in that Insecure group myself! TFS & Hugs. (also thanks for the newer post about the collection agencies. Some very good info contained in that post).

  29. This is a really cool card. I might have asked you before, but do you ever sell images of your cards on Zazzle? I can imagine a bowling team might enjoy a card with your design. I sell some of my art imagery and photographs as cards and tshirts on Zazzle.

    1. Only trouble with that J. Hanna, it is not readily identifiable as a bowling ball. One would need a few pins or something to go with it for a bowling team.

    2. Well there is no problem then. Just alter the illustration slightly to make it look more like a bowling theme Christmas card. It is still a great suggestion, the Zazzle thing :). I am an unabashed Zazzler. Cannot help it :).
