Meet Lucy

Lucy, is our second cat......yes, she is named after Lucille Ball but, no, she does not have orange fur.  Hubby and I met 10 years ago and knew we were it and that was...that. I had a dog and hubby had a cat-Naddie whom I spoke of last week. I am a dog person and never thought of myself as a cat person, in fact, I have to admit I found the "I Hate Cat Calendars" quite funny. So 2 weeks into our relationship, my hubby introduced me to a new pussy cat he had picked up at the local pet store and he named her Lucy. I ...was nervous...now he has, gulp, 2 cats and this one seemed to just love being into our business.

Lucy was the runt and hubby fell in love with her when he saw her in the pet store because, although she was knocked off her perch by another cat, she went right back up and knocked the bigger cat down. With success, she started to licked her paws in victory. Since then, Lucy broke a mirror and a crystal glass that was a set of 2 given to my parents way back in the early 60's. She loves to climb and feel above you...in every sense of the word. I can say she can be a real bitch! She is the one that, when you are writing, she must walk right on top of the keys and then lay down demanding to be stroked and petted. If you tell her no and send her on her way, she does this certain meow that is ever so snippy and means she is giving us the middle finger. In fact, when my mom was still with us, living in the upstairs apartment, she turned off the kitchen light and heard Lucy jump off the chair (that my mom made comfortable for her by the window), trot over to my  mom and meow in demand. My mom turned on the light, Lucy trotted back to the window only to do an about face when my mom, once again, turned off the light. Lucy informed my mom, in no uncertain meows, that the light must stay on....my mom behaved and kept the light on.

Lucy is very affectionate when she wants to be, lets us know with her meows when we are not being her dutiful servant and takes off and hides the moment someone else enters her palace....she does not want to be disturbed. She is quite pretty, thin and doesn't eat much...the perfect model-thank God she can't throw a cell phone.  Her lover is Naddie and the rest be dammed! There are many stories about our Lucy but I shall save them for another day.

Name: Lucy
Age: 10 Years
Nickname: Lucykins, Diva, Bitch
Loves: To groom and groom; placing one nail inside your nose if you don't do what she wants; be the centre of attention on her terms; Be brushed-she seems to go into ecstasy...a little disturbing; The outside but only on our yard.
Food: Picky, Picky, Picky-she's a model....model.
Toys: Rolled up paper ball, The laser. pencils, pens, eyeglasses (ughh)

Who can relate to a model cat?

  1. She is so cute and definitely a fit for your family :) I must say I have never owned a cat, though I threatened a certain corgi that used to live here that I would replace him with a cat when the time came as he didn't like cats, but that didn't come to be. I'm not sure a cat and me would get along. I tend to mother, not sure if it was too independent how it would work out :)

    1. I never thought I would own a cat but now we have 5! Each cat is so different and some do give affection but they are not dogs:)

  2. Hi, Birgit!

After reading your post and looking at these pictures, I can understand why you love Lucy. Her green eyes are stunning! It's nice to know she watches her weight and stays fit and trim for the runway. She reminds me of my sis-in-law's cat, a male named Louie. He loves to lie on my chest while I recline of the sofa watching TV. Louie head butts me until I start petting and scratching him. If I stop, he head butts me again until I resume. :)

Thank you for introducing your pritty kitty Lucykins, dear friend BB, and have a wonderful week!

  5. I always had cats growing up. Then in college I discovered that I was allergic to them. No wonder I was always sick, lol. I am always suspicious of folks who don't like cats. Glad you do. In my next life, I want to be a tiger.

  6. We had two cats for many years, a skinny black half-Siamese named Mookie and a big fat orange tabby named Samwise. Mookie was always the jerk and the boss, and picked on Sam relentlessly, until one day Sam realized he was twice his size. Right in the middle of Mookie chewing on his neck (as he was wont to do) Sam rose up on his hind legs and just smacked Mookie in the face over and over again. Mookie staggered away with a BLOODY NOSE. I've never seen that before, but after that the playing field was much more level.

Mookie passed away a few years ago and every sense Sam has mostly kept to himself. I think he misses his old bully/buddy.

    1. It's amazing how we just love our animals even when they can be bullies. They bond so much with each other. When my Katie passed, our other dog wouldn't eat and the one cat was very upset and needed a lot of comfort.

  8. I haven't had a cat since my last one got hit by a car in the 60s. That was in the UK where we let our cats wander. I wouldn't mind having another but Matt is definitely not into cats. Lucy sounds cute.

    1. I did have cats and dogs growing up and when they got hit by a car, I just didn't want animals for a long time because it hurt too much.

  9. Aw. A cat named after Lucille Ball. That's cute! But her nickname is "Bitch?" LOL! I sometimes call my cats pains-in-the-butts and buttheads. :P

  11. She is one sweet feline! And quite a camera-loving cat. I wish I photographed as well as she does.

  12. She's so adorable, who cares if she's a bitch? I think all cats would give us the middle finger if they could. Just be thankful Lucy never learned to turn those lights on herself. One of my cats is a light switch flipper, and it can be aggravating having to walk around the house shutting off random lights.

    1. Now that's funny! If Lucy turned on lights, it would drive my hubby nuts. As it is she can open the upstairs door quite nicely.

  13. She sounds amazing. I had a persian cross when I lived in Spain who was quite a character. Don't know what it is about cats, but I adore them!

  14. Sadly, our Lucy's no longer with us, but we named her after Lucille Ball because she got into all kinds of mischief. She was half Siamese, which might explain some of it...

  19. Lucy is a pretty kitty. I wasn't a cat person until I lived in a house that had mice. Then I fell in love with the kitty we adopted. So much in love, that we adopted two more. Now I stick with dogs because they talk to me and take walks with me. Cats are too snobbish to chat.

    Love,

    1. I am still a dog person but I love the pussy cats and I would say to take the plunge. Nothing beats coming home after a bad day and having the pussy cats meow as they trot up to me and the plunk down in front to have a rub. They can be on their own but they also need love and that is wonderful

  27. Lucy sounds like quite a character! ☺ Cats can certainly be moody and she seems typical in that regard. I've never had a cat, but I used to do house calls for cat owners who were away. Interesting personalities!
