Somehow, Kaspar has the right look…all suspect to the new year…what will it bring? Let us hope, with caution, we all have a good year. I skipped last week because I was just done in. I think we all were by Christmas. I spent Christmas Day in and out of sleep. I did too much, typical me, and paid the price. Boxing Day was better and now the decorations are coming down but the Blues have not come in, thankfully. I am still partaking of the Monday Music Moves Me which is about Christmas Blues.
1. I BELIEVE IN FATHER CHRISTMAS SUNG BY GREG LAKE-1975
I love this Christmas song which is a bit sad since it’s, actually, about the commercialism that seems to overtake the meaning of Christmas. I choose to ignore it and enjoy the ending of this song which is really quite lovely.
2. THE CHRISTMAS BLUES SUNG BY DEAN MARTIN-1954
Happy New Year ‘Birgit….let hope it bring peace and love the world sure needs it …take care and rest up xxxx
ReplyDeleteHi, Birgit!
ReplyDeleteHappy new year, dear friend!
I'm sorry to learn you were wiped out by the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season and needed a week of rest. Hope you are on the rebound as a new year begins. I have seen lots of pictures of my buddies Harley and Lexi, but very few of kitty Kaspar. Thanks for posting this one. Like kaspar, I am not exactly "bullish" on 2025, but I'll try to remain calm and keep my spirits up. It's a good thing we have our music and memories to cling to.
Coincidentally, my college dorm roommate's name was Greg Lake. I am quite familiar with this Greg Lake, famous for being part of the prog rock trio Emerson, Lake & Palmer. The powerful song and video "Father Christmas" didn't actually show up on my radar until a few years ago. The song offers a perspective on the holiday that everyone should take to heart. Sadly, Greg Lake was only 69 when he took ill and died 8 years ago.
Ever since childhood when Dean Martin's records played frequently in our household, I have enjoyed listening to his smooth crooning. "Christmas Blues" is one I song don't remember but loved hearing.
I am not familiar with comic Denny Brownlee but admit he does a fine job of imitating Porky Pig. I'm sure the laughter in the background was "canned" and added in the studio. If you like this type of radio comedy, I urge you to listen to the recordings made by the comedy team of Hudson & Landry.
Hey, come see the new look of Shady's Place for 2025! No commenting is necessary on my "Midnight Madness" post, but I wanted to call your attention to the first major design changes I've made since my blogging career began in 2008.
Wishing you and your family a safe, happy and healthy new year, dear friend BB! If you're posting again tamale, I'll be sitting in the balcony waiting for you-- "At The Movies!"
Happy New Year, Birgit! I hope you're getting some rest. The post-Christmas blues always get me. All those weeks of preparation, then it's over so quickly! 😔 I love that Greg Lake song and enjoyed the Dean Martin tune as well. Nice discovery! 👌 Porky Pig is an acquired taste, but Denny Brownlee did a good job with it. Cheers! 🥂🍾
ReplyDeleteSorry you were so exhausted over Christmas - hope you are feeling better now, and happy new year!
ReplyDeleteI Believe In Father Christmas...awesome!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! I once heard a dead-on impression of Elmer Fudd singing "O Christmas Tree" (one of the few Warner Bros. Cartoon voices done by Mel Blanc) that had me rolling on the floor...
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Birgit! It's funny every time I hear "Blue Christmas" I always think of the Porky Pig rendition which is such a hoot! Thanks for making me smile this morning, dear friend. I wish for you all the best in this new year. May health, happiness, and prosperity be yours each day!
ReplyDeleteI'm not even sure they could get away with Porky Pig's Blue Christmas nowadays but I love this. Actually I loved all three of your selections. Greg Lake's song has been a years long favorite of mine.
