Another crazy week with the normal zoo of work and my friend but my dear friend from Vancouver came down to visit me, Thursday evening and left this morning and it was a very busy, but very, very fun time. He is an active man that needs to go for his walks…an older friend of his calls it an airing which I love. I chased him out each morning for his airing..lol. On Saturday, we travelled to Elora, a pretty little town that is known for its Elora Gorge, but the month of October, they have “Spooky Month” with art pieces all around the town along with Ghost Walks and a “Monster Mash” in the evening which we didn’t see since it was at night and we were tired. Check out the other scary tunes over at Monday Music Moves Me and here are my 3..
1. THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC SUNG BY JUDY GARLAND-1942

I Put A Spell On You, preferably sung by Nina Simone.
ReplyDeleteYou pick the highest of quality for these series. Judy Garland's voice, perfection. That Artie tune does creep me out. And ole blue eyes, sigh. I'm not creative the way you are; I might just go for Thriller by the late great Michael Jackson.
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween time!
Glad you got to spend time with your friend. I'm a big fan of walks.
ReplyDeleteMonster Mash comes to mind...
I didn't know Elora had these October activities. Sounds like fun! ☺ You've picked some excellent, classic tunes. I would go with "I Put A Spell On You" as well, but the Jeff Beck/Joss Stone version.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you got to spend time with your friend. I know that made you happy.
ReplyDeleteSongwise, Spooky comes to mind;)
Just to add to the songs already mentioned, Monster Mash is credited to Bobby "Boris" Pickett. Many have mentioned Leon Russell as the piano player on the song but this was not the case. As for "I Put a Spell on You", my favourite version is by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
ReplyDeleteTime spent a friend is enduring and fun!
ReplyDeleteOooo, you brought some fabulously good oldies to the dance floor, Birgit! I wouldn't have thought of Art Shaw's "Nightmare" arrangement. Ole Blue Eyes backed by a real orchestra is awesome. I love artists of yesteryear, even those in more recent years fro 70s and 80s that incorporated a full orchestra into their sound. You just don't get that kind of quality in today's music. Thanks for sharing and for joining the party, mi dear! xo
I certainly wasn't thinking of these classics (I went back even further in my post, lol). I knew the first and third songs but Artie Shaw's instrumental was new to me and I loved it.
