Weekly Song Challenge

I have not been around due to some personal heartbreaks, operation notification and hubby in the hospital plus friends visiting from Vancouver. I will write up the dilemmas later but let’s have fun with the theme challenge set by the wonderful Jingle, Jangle, Jungle. Here are the 3 themes...

A SONG WITH BLUE IN THE TITLE

A SONG THAT STARTS WITH THE FIRST LETTER OF YOUR NAME

A SONG WITH ROOM(OR TYPE OF ROOM)IN THE TITLE

1. BLUE TANGO BY LEROY ANDERSON- 1952

This is a song that I heard when I was a kid and just fell in love with it. To this day I daydream dancing the tango tothis...but without the whiplash neck style they do with the ballroom tango...I prefer the Argentine tango.

2.  BANG A BOOMERANG BY ABBA -1974

This is from their album, ABBA, and I always liked it plus it popped into my head so there ya go. Who does bank a boomerang? Enjoy.

3. ROOM WITH A VIEW SUNG BY PAUL MCCARTNEY-1998

OK the movie, with the same name, came into my mind first and this song came up. It's written by Noel Coward back in 1928 when he was in Hawaii recuperating from a nervous breakdown. I love Noel Coward and I like Paul (George is my favourite) so I thought this worked.

It has been a bit chaotic and I just flat-line a bit but I will let you know the scoop...I promise.

  2. Hi, Birgit!

I'm very sorry that you are continuing to experience hardship on your side of the screen, dear friend. I hope things start trending upward soon. In the meantime, your WSC play list gives us both a little something to smile about.

Like you, I remember your first selection, "Blue Tango," from childhood. Are you now inspired to sign up for tango lessons, BB?

The ABBA song "Bang A Boomerang" is an excellent choice for two reasons. First, it contains two "B" words, covering your first and last name. Secondly, it is a seldom heard ABBA classic. My first exposure to "Bang A Boomerang" came when it was covered by the various artists tribute group Stars On 45 as one of the songs in their famous "ABBA Medley" that was a hit in clubs.

Paul's "A Room With A View" is another good pick on your part. Paul is a versatile singer. On The Beatles single "I'm Down," he executed hysterical wails patterned after the style of Little Richard, and on this song he sounds like the mellow crooners who fronted big bands during the Swing years.

    Here are my picks:

BLUE SONG: "Lavender's Blue" aka "Lavender Blue," an old English folk song and nursery rhyme. Hit versions of the song were recorded by Burl Ives, Sammy Kaye and Dinah Shore, but it is the version by Sammy Turner that I best remember from boyhood. Sammy's single reached the top 3 winner's circle in the summer of 1959.

SONG STARTING WITH "T": "Troglodyte (Cave Man)," a novelty funk single by The Jimmy Castor Bunch. In the summer of 1972, "Troglodyte" peaked in the top 5 on the R&B chart and climbed all the way to #2 on Cash Box.

ROOM SONG: "In Your Room," a single by The Bangles that went top 5 at the start of 1989. it's one of my favorites by the famous girl band.

Again, it pains me that you are having such a tough go of it, dear friend. Hang in there, ride out the storm, and may you encounter brighter days soon.

  4. Off the top of my head:
Blue Moon, although as a kid my cousin had a recording (78rpm) of Blue Tango and we would dance around her basement, though I am sure we were not doing the tango correctly, lol.

    Don't Go Breakin' My Heart.

And I also thought of Room with a View - the movie, first.

Hope hubby is doing okay. I had surgery for a kidney stone years ago and it was quite the nightmare for two months with infections and a kidney that shut down. Take care.

  5. Good ones, especially "Blue Tango." A popular instrumental in its day...

  6. You sure love ABBA, don't you? That is a good song, but I'd never heard it before.

Hope your week goes better and you have less stress and more positive outcomes soon, dear.

  9. Birgit,

I know you have your hands full. I'm sorry for the heaviness in your life with more downs then ups right now but I pray better days open soon to you.

I love your older song selections. These are tunes I would not heard other wise if it wasn't for you or the few others in Blogosphere who are good to share such unexpected song choices. What really surprised me is I didn't know the ABBA's song you picked. How is that even possible?

I shall await to read all the news on your end when you're feeling more energize to share. Have a wonderful day and I'm sorry for not getting over here last Wednesday to listen to your WSC picks!
