I would love to go to the carnival in Venice, all dressed up and go to an actual Masquerade Ball but I’m content to see the very beautiful costumes while I sit on my couch in my housecoat. I have joined the Monday Music Moves Me over at Curious As A Cathy. Here we go…
1. CARNIVAL OF VENICE BY PAGANINI
This is a famous piece popularized by Paganini who was a composer and famous violinist who made this Italian folk tune famous.
2. WALTZ IN BLACK MUSIC BY JASON ROWAN
3. CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS:THE SWAN
Hey, animals can have carnivals too and this is the most famous part of this musical piece composed by Camille Saint-Saens.
You will notice I don’t have the year of each piece because I couldn’t find them and..it’s late and I’m tired.
Aren’t the outfits amazing?
Someplace around here I have a mask that I bought in Venice. Also have one from New Orleans. But never actually been to a masquerade.
ReplyDeleteI neverbought a mask when I was there...too much money!
DeleteCarnival in Venice would be amazing. Even just visiting Venice would be amazing. You did a great job finding music for this theme.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it and Venice is great!
DeleteGreat blog
ReplyDeletePlease read my post
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how many countries have Carnival events.
ReplyDeleteI think every country has one
DeleteLovely selections, Birgit! I have been to Venice, but not during Carnival season. This is also a big deal in Germany, as you probably know. My aunt and uncle were once the grand masters of the Karneval parade in Essen. ☺
ReplyDeleteFasching! My mom often spoke about it and how much fun it was. I have a very old picture of my great grandmother in some outfit. Pretty cool about your Aunt and Uncle
DeleteI am way too introverted to ever enjoy a carnival like that with all the crowds, costumes and masks. The ones I like are those simple fairs with rides, animals and fun food.
ReplyDeleteI don't like huge crowds either but would live to see these fancy outfits
DeleteI'm not a big fan of large crowds anymore but I've been to a few carnivals (just local ones) and they can be fun.
ReplyDeleteAll your musical choices are beautiful but of course I jumped to films with carnival in the title (not yucky ones like Carnival of Souls but actual ones involving festivities). The first one that came to mind is a fun minor musical from 1947 titled "Carnival in Costa Rica" with Vera-Ellen and Cesar Romero. Next would be the Belgium classic "Carnival in Flanders" from 1935. The third is 1954's overheated (in a delicious way) "Carnival Story" starring Miss Anne Baxter and Steve Cochran.
I like Carnival of Souls but it is a horror film but a good one. I hVe not seen your first 2 but would love to especially the one with Vera-Ellen but I have seen the one with Anne Baxter all sweaty for Steve Cochran. It's a pretty good romp and I think I will talk about circus movies next week.
DeleteAll I have at home is some Mardi Gras-type beads that the krewes will throw to the crowds, except I got them at a cancer walk I participated in years ago. That video that accompanied The Swan was beautiful! My favorite of the three was the middle work. I enjoyed the mellow sounds.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see Venice. I love your music, especially "Waltz in Black". "Carnival of the Animals: The Swan" is really nice, too. Thanks for adding a little classical to the dance floor. Have a boogietastic week, Birgit!
